Best Songs From Trolls Band Together, Ranked

As a die-hard fan of boy bands from the ’90s, I was absolutely thrilled by the musical numbers in the animated film “Trolls Band Together.” Having grown up listening to the catchy tunes of New Edition, New Kids on the Block, Boyz II Men, Bee Gees, and NSYNC, among others, it was a nostalgic treat to see these classic songs reimagined in the context of this fantastical world.

Title “Trolls Band Together” signifies the third animated movie in the Trolls series. This installment brings vibrant characters and catchy tunes to the big screen once more. As preparations for King Gristle and Queen Bridget’s wedding progress, a long-hidden truth about Branch emerges: he used to be part of a boyband, BroZone, alongside his siblings. In a turn of events, one of his brothers, Floyd, is kidnapped by the wicked pop duo Velvet and Veneer. To save him, the Trolls embark on a journey.

The “Trolls” movie series is famous for its musical scenes and celebrity-packed casts, and the third installment does not disappoint. This film is packed with an assortment of catchy tunes, including covers and medleys of popular songs. With BroZone taking center stage, there are even some heartfelt homages to legendary boy bands from the past.

10 “9 to 5”

Performed by Zosia Mamet

In the story “Trolls Band Together,” a new character named Crimp is presented. This creature resembles a hairball and supports the roles of Velvet and Veneer as their right-hand helper. Eager to please her masters, Crimp consistently goes the extra mile by coming up with innovative ideas. To further highlight her dedication, she performs the well-known tune “9 to 5,” originally sung by Dolly Parton.

In this film’s song, composed for its title, the story focuses on the struggles of three mistreated laborers as they fight against their oppressive boss. This tune serves as a powerful symbol of resistance and empowerment for those who have been unfairly treated in the workforce.

“What a Way To Make a Livin’…”

In the story “Trolls Band Together“, Crimp begins singing as she rises from bed and performs the song’s actions. She stumbles into the kitchen and is filled with “ambition” by being poured into a coffee cup. Following this, she takes a makeshift “shower” by being emptied into a sink. Once refreshed, Crimp attends to Velvet and Veneer’s grooming needs. However, her task is disrupted during the chorus when she accidentally scorches Veneer with an iron because he neglects to remove his clothing before she starts preparing it.

9 “Perfect”

Performed by Justin Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan

“One of BroZone’s most beloved tunes in the story is named ‘Perfect.’ This title encapsulates the band’s aspirations for harmonious family relationships, with the implication that uniting their bonds will unlock a remarkable power.”

“You’ll Never, Ever Wanna Let It Go”

In a flashback scene, BroZone starts singing a song together early on, effortlessly introducing their distinct personalities within the group – from the jovial member to the more emotional one. It’s worth mentioning that since Branch is depicted as the youngest among them, Justin Timberlake’s voice was subtly altered in the film to create a younger sound for his part.

In the end, they nearly achieve a flawless harmony together. Yet, the pressures and discord of being in a boy band eventually take a toll on them, leading to an unsuccessful concert. The siblings then part ways, with Branch staying behind with his grandmother. The tune is performed again a few times throughout the movie, most notably during the Trolls’ quest to find Floyd.

8 “It Takes Two”

Performed by Camila Cabello, Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi

In the game Trolls Band Together, I come across Viva for the first time. She’s introduced as King Peppy’s elder daughter and Poppy’s long-lost sister, who teams up with Clay to manage the Putt Putt Trolls, or Golf Trolls. During a heartwarming duet called “It Takes Two,” Poppy and Viva celebrate their newfound bond. Joining them are Branch and other BroZone members.

A Tale of Two Sisters

The song conveys the thought that discovering lost aspects of oneself is achieved through the influence of family. In simple terms, this means that family plays a significant role in shaping who we become as individuals. Additionally, the song is heard again at the end of the credits, with Viva delivering the film’s closing remark, “Wow, it’s like sunshine in my ears,” which can be interpreted as a commentary on the song or the movie’s uplifting effect.

7 “Lonely People”

Performed by Troye Sivan

As a big fan of “Trolls Band Together,” I can tell you that when Floyd was part of BroZone with Branch, I saw how deeply connected they were. He even promised his grandmother that he’d be back once he was done with them. In the story, it was Floyd who took the driver’s seat, so to speak, as he got captured by Velvet and Veneer with the sinister plan of draining his talent. Seeing this, the other characters were galvanized into action, determined to save Floyd from their clutches.

“Your Ukelele Skills Are Improving”

I’m a huge fan of Floyd’s music, and when he sang “Lonely People” during his stint in the crystal prison, it was a hauntingly beautiful rendition. This cover was inspired by the song “America” had originally recorded, which was penned as a reaction to The Beatles’ “Eleanor Rigby.”

As a person who has felt the crushing weight of loneliness at times in my life, I deeply resonate with the message of that song. It speaks directly to those of us who feel disconnected from the world, encouraging us to keep holding on to hope for a better future. The imagery of Floyd imagining himself floating above his past, looking down, is a powerful reminder of the importance of reflection and growth. And when he acknowledges Crimp’s ukulele skills and her presence throughout the song, it adds a layer of connection and comfort that can only come from shared experience. It’s a beautiful reminder that even in our darkest moments, there are people and things in this world that can lift us up and help us keep moving forward.

6 “Family”

Performed by Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan

In the tale of “Trolls Band Together,” family is a significant motif. Consequently, it made perfect sense for the opening song during the credits to be titled “Family.” At this juncture, Branch has managed to reconnect not only with Kismet but also with BroZone. While onstage, Branch makes a little request to Poppy. By now, she has figured out his intention: an invitation for her to become part of the band. With great excitement, Poppy accepts and invites Viva to join her onstage as well.

“Thirsty For the Juice”

During the opening of the scene, the actors’ names are displayed while Poppy and Branch initiate the music performance. The melody underscores the significance of bonding and togetherness. As the camera transitions from the performers dancing to static images, the song subtly highlights various forms of families in its lyrics.

5 “Watch Me Work”

Performed by Andrew Rannells, Brianna Mazzola

“The song ‘Watch Me Work’ is known as Velvet and Veneer’s theme track. As wicked siblings, they showcase it on “The Bop on Top,” a program reminiscent of Top of the Pops from the UK. A clip of the music video is shown, where they proudly display their riches, including riding on a tiger. In the interview segment, Veneer expresses Velvet as his major motivation, to which she concurs, acknowledging that she herself is her greatest source of inspiration.”

“If You Want to Be as Famous as Me…”

As a seasoned music critic with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve heard it all – but Velvet and Veneer take the cake for being the most insidious and unmerited duo in the industry. Their hit song may be catchy on the surface, but beneath that shiny veneer lies a dark truth: they don’t deserve their fame one bit.

4 “Let’s Get Married”

Performed by Justin Timberlake, Anna Kendrick, Zooey Deschanel, Anderson .Paak, Kenan Thompson, Kumal Nayvar, Icona Pop, Ron Funches

In the Trolls movies, there’s a tradition of blending well-known songs into their music. The film “Trolls Band Together” continues this trend with the upbeat number “Let’s Get Married.” This catchy tune features an array of popular tunes such as “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge, “Push It” by Salt-N-Pepa, “Good As Hell” by Lizzo, and “Hello” by Lionel Richie. To add to the nuptial vibes, Richard Wagner’s “Bridal Chorus” is also included in this musical medley.

A Big Day in Bergen Town

In the beginning of the movie, as Branch and Poppy head to Bridget and Grigen’s wedding, the Trolls pitch in to assist the Bergens with their preparations. Memories of Bridget’s transformation in the initial film resurface as they work on her wedding gown. Towards the end of the song, Bridget makes her grand entrance from above, appearing like a floating cloud.

3 “BroZone’s Back”

Performed by Justin Timberlake, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Anna Kendrick

After Spruce joins BroZone, the musical group formerly consisting of Branch and other forest friends, Branch is ready to perform with his brothers once again. In this heartwarming song titled “BroZone’s Back,” Branch shares the stage with John Dory, Spruce, and Poppy. However, Poppy cleverly employs reverse psychology to convince a hesitant Branch to join them onstage, suggesting that he might become emotional if he sings before he’s truly ready.

“All I Ever Wanted…”

I’m absolutely in love with this catchy tune that brilliantly blends together classics from my favorite boy bands! It brings back memories of “Candy Girl” by New Edition, “You Got It (The Right Stuff)” by New Kids on the Block, and the unforgettable beats of “Motownphilly” by Boyz II Men. And let’s not forget the iconic rhythm of “Stayin Alive” by Bee Gees! This mashup is a must-listen for any boy band fan like me!

As a former 90s kid who grew up idolizing both Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, I find the fusion of these two iconic boy bands in “BroZone’s Back” an absolute delight! The song’s creators cleverly incorporated samples from “I Want You Back” by NSYNC, reminding us of Justin Timberlake’s musical roots and possibly referencing his bandmates.

2 “Mount Rageous”

Performed by Andrew Rannells, Brianna Mazzola

When Velvet and Veneer are unmasked by Branch and Poppy in the intense confrontation, their deceitful actions are laid bare. As they flee in a limousine, leaving behind a trail of destruction, they continue to exploit Branch’s captured brothers for their music. In hot pursuit, Branch, Poppy, Bridget, Gristle, and even Hustleman join forces to put an end to their nefarious schemes.

“Did You Think We Were Going to Give You a Boring Old Stage Show?”

The show begins with a rendition of “Sweet Dreams” by Eurythmics, which is included as an extra feature in the number’s expanded version. Later, this transitions into a fusion of Fame’s iconic theme song and Velvet and Veneer’s track “Watch Me Work.” This catchy tune demonstrates how even popular music can effectively serve as a villain’s anthem when skillfully executed.

During the show, Velvet’s voice stands out stronger than her brother’s. This underscores how she takes charge in their act, having persuaded her sibling into joining her plans against his will. It hints at Velvet being the one to feel remorse and make a public confession of their wrongdoings later on.

1 “Better Place”

Performed by NSYNC, Eric Andre, Daveed Diggs, Kid Cudi, Troye Sivan, Anna Kendrick, Camila Cabello

“The hit single ‘Better Place (Perfect Harmony)’ from the Trolls Band Together soundtrack takes the spotlight first. This catchy tune is inspired by the pop music sensation of the 1990s, with a hint of disco rhythm. In the movie, Branch employs it to release the trolls from their crystal captivity. Both Poppy and Viva join in the chorus.”

Branch Wants You to Meet Some Old Friends

Near the closing moments of the movie, we learn that Branch was previously a member of the band Kismet, with its vocalists being portrayed by other NSYNC members. As the end credits approach, they deliver a remake of their song, leading smoothly into “Family.”

NSYNC’s rendition of the song was their initial offering following the release of their album, “Celebrity,” marking an end to a prolonged break of over two decades. It’s worth mentioning that this amusingly implies Justin Timberlake, an NSYNC member, providing Branch’s voice.
