Bestselling Author and Weezer Bassist’s Wife Released on $1M Bond After Being Shot by LAPD

Noted author Jillian Lauren Shriner, who’s currently wed to the bassist of alt-rock band Weezer, posted a $1 million bond on Thursday for her release from Los Angeles jail. This comes after an incident on Tuesday when she was wounded by gunfire following an altercation with LAPD officers who were investigating a crime in her neighborhood. She had reportedly pointed a firearm at the officers.

Charlie Fusco, Shriner’s manager, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday afternoon that the author and journalist is in good health, having survived the shooting and been freed from detention. At present, however, he declined to provide further comments.

On Tuesday afternoon, approximately at 3:45 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department officers chased three suspects in L.A.’s Eagle Rock district. The pursuit started following a minor traffic accident on the Ventura Freeway where the suspects fled. Officers from the California Highway Patrol were also involved, helping to establish a safety barrier around the residential area where the suspects entered, close to the 134 Freeway and Figueroa Street intersection.

As I was lurking around a residence, one of the suspects’ potential hideouts, I saw a woman brandishing a handgun outside a nearby home. Later identified as Lauren Shriner by the LAPD, she ignored repeated commands to drop her weapon, leading to an escalation in the situation.

In the report, it is stated that after Shriner aimed a handgun at the police officers, a situation involving an officer’s use of firearm ensued.

Upon getting shot, I hastily retreated into my home. As helicopters from nearby news outlets circled overhead, another woman and I emerged from my residence, lying prone on the sidewalk. Subsequently, I was handcuffed and carried on a stretcher by paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department, who rushed me to a local hospital for treatment of non-critical wounds.

Shriner did not take part in the hit-and-run incident, and one of the three individuals suspected of being involved was apprehended by the police. A handgun, model 9mm, was discovered within her home according to the LAPD’s official statement. While receiving medical treatment at the hospital, she was taken into custody on a suspicion of attempting to commit murder.

At a Wednesday evening press conference, LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar stated that the footage from officers’ body cameras didn’t clearly show if a shot had been fired or what happened in the critical seconds leading up to the shooting incident.

At that moment, several orders were issued for him to relinquish his firearm, specifically “drop the gun” and “drop the weapon.” Regrettably, this situation led to a shooting involving an officer.

Records from the Los Angeles County jail show that she’s currently out on a $1 million bond, having been freed from custody. As of Thursday afternoon, there’s no record of Lauren appearing for an arraignment in any Los Angeles court.

As a gamer, I’ve read and can’t forget the captivating memoir penned by someone else – Lauren – titled “Some Girls: My Life in a Harem.” It offers an intimate glimpse into her life as a member of the Prince of Brunei’s harem, her profession as a sex worker, and her struggles with substances. Later on, she dived deep into the world of true crime with another book, “Behold the Monster: Confronting America’s Most Prolific Serial Killer,” which focuses on the notorious serial killer Samuel Little. In 2021, her intriguing relationship with Little was chronicled in a Starz docuseries.

On the first weekend of the Coachella Arts and Music Festival in Indio, California, Weezer, the band led by Lauren’s husband Scott Shriner and formed by Rivers Cuomo in the 1990s, will be performing as a substitute act on the Saturday schedule. They are renowned for their alternative rock music, having released two highly popular records – the “blue album” and Pinkerton – along with several other albums since then.
