Beyoncé Becomes First Black Woman to Win Country Grammy in 50 Years

For Beyoncé, making history isn’t a novelty; instead, it propels her even faster toward achieving more milestones.

As a music-loving gamer, I found myself witnessing history unfold at the 2025 Grammys. The undisputed queen of melodies, who was already crowned with an impressive 11 nominations, solidified her reign in the realm of music that evening. She shattered more records under the spotlight on Sunday night, making it clear why she deserves every bit of her throne.

Despite already holding the title as the most-awarded Grammy artist ever (she broke this record with her album Renaissance in 2023), she added to her tally on Sunday. To date, she has won one award at the initial ceremony earlier that day, increasing her total to 33.

50 years ago, no Black woman had been awarded a Grammy in the country music category until Beyoncé broke that record with her win at this year’s premiere ceremony. She was honored for her collaboration with Miley Cyrus on “II MOST WANTED.” The Pointer Sisters were the last group of Black artists to win in this category, taking home the award for best country vocal performance by a duo or group back in 1975.

As the Grammys approach, Beyoncé is at the forefront with 11 nominations. Among these are the highly coveted categories of Album of the Year and Best Country Album for “Cowboy Carter”. Her top-rated country single, “Texas Hold ‘Em”, garnered recognition in several key categories such as Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Country Song. Additionally, she received nominations for Best Country Solo Performance for “16 Carriages” and Best Americana Performance for “Ya Ya”.

Two years ago, at the 2023 Grammy Awards ceremony, Beyoncé broke the record for the most awarded artist in Grammy history, earning a total of 32 wins. This surpassed the previous record held by late conductor Georg Solti. She accomplished this feat with her 2022 album “Renaissance”.

On Sunday evening, the 2025 Grammy Awards, which were hosted by Trevor Noah, were broadcast live from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. To see who won each award, click here for the complete list of winners. You can also take a look at all the glamorous red carpet arrivals by clicking here.
