Beyoncé took home album of the year for the first time during the 2025 Grammys on Sunday night.
The performer was nominated together with André 3000, Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, Jacob Collier, Billie Eilish, Chappell Roan, and Taylor Swift for an award. These artists were all recognized for their respective songs: “New Blue Sun”, “Short n’ Sweet”, “BRAT”, “Djesse Vol. 4”, “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT”, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess”, and “THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT”.
During a television broadcast where fire relief was a significant focus, representatives from the Los Angeles Fire Department handed out an award. As the show concluded, it was announced by host Trevor Noah that a total of $7 million had been collected for relief efforts.
As the curtain fell and the singer’s name echoed through the venue, my heart swelled with pride as I saw my beloved Beyoncé emotionally hug her daughter Blue Ivy and her husband Jay-Z. Known for her captivating performances, the Cowboy Carter singer-songwriter was met with a standing ovation from the mesmerized crowd.
Beyoncé expressed a mix of fullness and gratitude as she stepped onto the stage, recognizing the significance of the moment. “After all these years,” she said, “I’m incredibly grateful and I want to express my thanks to the Grammys, every songwriter, collaborator, producer – everyone who has contributed to the hard work that led to this moment. I’d like to dedicate this award to the legendary Ms. Martell. May we continue to break barriers and open doors. God bless you all. Thank you so much.
In simpler terms,
On stage, she embraced her daughter who had come up with her. Meanwhile, Taylor Swift was spotted in the crowd, enthusiastically applauding Jay-Z.
Beyoncé’s long-standing record as the female artist with the most nominations, yet no wins, in the Album of the Year category has finally been broken with her latest victory. Previously, albums like “I Am…Sasha Fierce”, “Beyoncé”, “Lemonade”, and “Renaissance” were all nominated but did not take home the prize.
It’s been quite a long time indeed.” (Beyoncé during her acceptance speech at the 2025 Grammys for her Album of the Year win with Cowboy Carter)

Previously in the evening, Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black artist to receive an award in the best country album category for “Cowboy Carter”. Taylor Swift, who had previously won this category in 2010 for her album “Fearless”, presented the award.
She exclaimed with surprise after embracing Swift on stage, “I didn’t see this coming!” She continued with heartfelt gratitude, “Thank you, heavens – Wow! – for allowing me to continue doing what I adore after all these years.” She couldn’t help but express her amazement again, saying, “Wow!
Previously, at the awards ceremony, Beyoncé achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the first African-American woman in half a century to receive a Country Grammy. This was granted following her win in the category of best country duo/group performance for “II MOST WANTED,” which she shared with Miley Cyrus. (Interestingly, The Pointer Sisters were the last duo or group to win this particular Country Grammy back in 1975.)
This year’s awards find Beyoncé at the forefront with a total of 11 nominations, among them album of the year and best country album for “Cowboy Carter.” Additionally, her track “Texas Hold ‘Em” earned nominations in categories such as song of the year, record of the year, and best country song.
Entering this year’s Grammys, Beyoncé was previously celebrated as the most decorated Grammy artist ever, having set a record in 2023 with her album “Renaissance”. However, by clinching three more awards on Sunday night, she has further expanded her record, now boasting a total of 34 Grammys.
During last year’s Grammy Awards when he received the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, Jay-Z spoke about his wife, Beyoncé, not having won in the album of the year’s main category.
I don’t wish to offend this young woman, but she has more Grammys than anyone else and hasn’t won Album of the Year yet. This seems contradictory. Let’s consider it: She has the most Grammys, yet never won for album of the year. It doesn’t make sense. Some of you might feel cheated after tonight. Some may indeed be cheated. Some of you simply don’t fit this category,” he stated, drawing a response from the audience.
He remarked, ‘When I’m anxious, I can’t help but be honest.’ He then went on to say, ‘We need to keep persevering though, showing up day after day.’ He emphasized, ‘Keep pushing until they recognize you with awards that reflect your worth. Until they address you as chairman. Until they acknowledge you as a genius. Until they declare you the greatest of all time.'”

“He noted, ‘I’m honest when I’m nervous.’ He then stressed, ‘We must continue to appear, consistently showing up.’ He advised, ‘Keep striving until they honor you with titles that reflect your merit. Until they address you as chairman. Until they recognize you as a genius. Until they acclaim you the greatest of all time.’
After its release in March 2024, “Cowboy Carter” was a groundbreaking moment for the singer as she highlighted other Black artists within the country music industry. Upon announcing the album initially, Beyoncé expressed feelings of not being “accepted” within the country music genre due to criticism she faced during her CMA performances.
Ahead of the Grammys, Beyoncé took to her Instagram to tease a Cowboy Carter Tour.
For the fifth year in a row, Noah resumed his role as the Grammy Awards host and additionally served as a producer for the event. The live telecast of the Grammys took place on Sunday from the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The production company responsible was Fulwell 73 Productions, working under the Recording Academy. Ben Winston, Raj Kapoor, and Jesse Collins were the executive producers for this show.
The Hollywood Reporter posted a collection of diverse red-carpet outfits prior to the event. Check out who took home the awards here.
