As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of animated superhero films, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”. Having been part of the creative team since the beginning, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson bring an unparalleled understanding and passion to Miles Morales’ journey that promises to deliver a satisfying conclusion to this epic saga.
I’m thrilled to announce that I, as a dedicated Spider-Man fan, have learned that the directors for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse have been selected! The talented duo from The Spider-Verse, Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, will be splitting directorial duties for this upcoming movie. This news has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter.
I had the privilege of being one of the co-directors for the 2018 Academy Award-winning masterpiece, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” and more recently, I’ve been serving as an executive producer on the upcoming sequel, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” in 2022.
Thompson served as the production designer for “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” later collaborating with Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers as co-directors on this successful movie that grossed a total of $690.5 million worldwide.
From the start, it’s been an incredible honor for us to be involved in Miles’ story. The thought of shaping the final chapter is thrilling! The passion and dedication put into each moment of this project has been truly inspiring. We believe we’ve created a highly rewarding ending, and we can hardly wait for fans to engage with it – we’re giving it our all!
The movie doesn’t have a scheduled release date anymore. Originally planned for March 29, 2024, it was taken off the schedule by the studio in July due to a reshuffle in the release dates caused by the dual writer and actor strikes.
The creative duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller are coming back to work on this project, joined by Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh in production. Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg will serve as executive producers, while Jessica Berri takes up the role of co-producer. The dynamic duo Lord and Miller are set to write the script alongside David Callaham.
Lord and Miller remarked that the fingerprints of Bob and Justin can be seen throughout these films, as their dedication to Miles’ journey is evident in every scene of his final adventure. It’s incredibly gratifying to collaborate with visionaries like Bob and Justin who possess such bold ideas and exceptional skills. We are overjoyed to team up with them once more to craft a fitting and fulfilling ending to this tale.
Deadline first reported the news.
