Big Brother’s Cedric Hodges Reveals Why He Cried During His Eviction, And The House-Specific Habit He's Had Trouble Breaking

As a seasoned gamer with years of reality TV binge-watching under my belt, I must say that the Week 4 eviction of Big Brother was nothing short of unexpected and heart-wrenching. Cedric Hodges, a marine and apparent sweetheart of the house, was unceremoniously sent packing, leaving us viewers in shock and him in tears.

During Week 4, an unexpected twist unfolded on Big Brother, as the house flipped and Cedric Hodges was evicted instead of Makensy Manbeck or Rubina Bernabe, who were initially expected to leave. This shocking turn of events left Cedric in tears following his eviction, but he clarified to TopMob that it wasn’t because he was upset about not winning the large cash prize. Instead, he shared a personal struggle he’s had with overcoming a habit and explained the real reason for his emotional response.

After watching an extended interview of Cedric on Paramount+ following his eviction from Big Brother, I found myself curious about why he was crying. Contrary to popular belief, this young marine’s tears weren’t driven by self-interest, but instead, he shared the thoughts that filled his mind during his conversation with Julie Chen Moonves. It appears the root cause of his emotional state was more intimate and personal in nature.

It wasn’t about losing or missing out on $750,000 that made me tear up; instead, I was moved by how quickly you formed connections with everyone in the house. Leaving those twelve friends behind felt like a heart-wrenching goodbye at an airport, as if I were saying farewell to my mom for a long time.

It’s understandable that Cedric feels this way, given his abrupt departure from the house after living there for a month with twelve people who bid him farewell. Not only is he now outside the house, but he’s also cut off from communicating with most of those individuals until the game concludes. That’s got to be tough, especially for someone as considerate and friendly as Cedric seemed during his stay in the house.

It seems that losing friends took precedence over everything else for Cedric, yet there were certain habits related to his previous living situation that he needed to change post-game. Upon inquiring about whether he was now free to sing licensed songs without restriction, I discovered that he was actually preoccupied with a different matter altogether.

Absolutely, the Big Brother House leaves an indelible mark on your personality, and it seems that remnants of this experience linger even after leaving. Today, I found myself pondering if I could wear certain clothes, which may seem unrelated, but in truth, it’s a testament to how deeply the show has affected me. Indeed, its influence is something I expect to carry with me for some time.

In the Big Brother house, contestants have a restricted set of actions they can take, with producers sometimes controlling their wardrobe choices as well. Although it appears that shirts representing specific colleges are allowed, the majority of what Houseguests wear is free from logos and kept simple. Now that Cedric has left the game, he no longer needs to adhere to this dress code rule.

Even though Cedric Hodges didn’t secure the major prize, it seems fair that he should have received the smaller amount paid to all ‘Big Brother’ contestants, considering his participation in the show. It may not be enough to quit a regular job, but some contestants manage to live off it for a short while and even appear on other reality shows or visit fellow Houseguests. I believe there’s a possibility we’ll see Cedric on another reality program in the future. Since his emotional departure, I hope his entertainment journey continues and he finds success in another series, where he won’t be eliminated prematurely.
