The London-based Big Picture Film Club (BPFC) announced on Monday their strategic shift towards distributing films in the United Kingdom and Ireland, as they acquired two new movies for this purpose, a scoop that we at The Hollywood Reporter have exclusively learned about.
The firm specializing in event planning, media production, and marketing strategy has obtained the rights to air sports documentary “Fighters” and environmental documentary “50 Hours Underwater,” both set for release during the third quarter.
Fighters, produced by Ben & Jack Studios and negotiated by Presh Williams, one of BPFC’s co-founders, follows Matt Edwards, a lower-limb amputee boxer who strives to conquer systemic obstacles and promote inclusivity in sports.
50 Hours Beneath the Ocean’s Surface,” obtained from Lifton Media GmbH via Williams, chronicles the journey of diving expert Shafraz (Shaff) Naeem who attempts a groundbreaking 50-hour dive in the Maldives. The thrilling undertaking, juxtaposed against the urgent issue of environmental damage, functions as an inspiring rallying cry for marine preservation and a tribute to the inherent resilience found within both communities and nature, as suggested by the synopsis.
For its 10th anniversary, BPFC has gained recognition through a nationwide partnership with Odeon Cinemas, managing their Diverse Cinema collection for five years and showcasing 24 different movies throughout the U.K.
Urvisha Patel, co-founder of Big Picture Film Club, stated: “Over the past ten years, we’ve cultivated communities through the films we have supported. Moving into distribution feels like a natural progression for us. This allows us to actively support outstanding films and emerging filmmakers, and I’m thrilled to share new narratives with unique perspectives with our audience.”
Williams also commented: “Through our five-year partnership with Odeon Cinemas across the U.K., we’ve witnessed how the theatrical aspect of film distribution is becoming increasingly significant in the era of video on demand services. We are eager for this new phase of Big Picture Film Club.
