There’s an easy Trump Derangement Syndrome test happening in real time.
Did tech billionaire Elon Musk give the Nazi salute at President Donald Trump’s inauguration?
There’s absolutely no indication that Elon Musk holds even a small amount of esteem or affection for Adolf Hitler or his abhorrent Nazi regime.
None.
However, some individuals on the political left, including Alex Winter, persistently argue that a particular hand gesture made by him symbolized a tribute to Nazi ideologies.
Known for portraying Bill S. Preston, Esquire in the “Bill and Ted” series, this actor utilized his Bluesky platform to reshare a remark that Elon Musk might be secretly sympathetic towards Nazism.
His rage didn’t stop there.
Additionally, he contended that Bluesy is the sole digital platform deemed “secure” for contemporary users. In the wake of Donald Trump’s re-election, this Twitter-esque service has drawn a large number of high-profile celebrities leaning towards the Left side of the political spectrum.
Many individuals such as Stephen King, Jon Cryer, among others, departed from Elon Musk’s X and moved to the “safer environment” of Bluesky. Regrettably, this fresh platform has been inundated with the same kind of hate that its users intended to abandon on X.
Some users targeted a journalist who brought the matter to light.

Winter’s anti-social media rant didn’t mince words.
As a cinema devotee, I find myself deeply concerned about social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter being increasingly used as vehicles for fascist propaganda, control, and targeted attacks. The safety and integrity of these spaces are questionable at best. However, if one must engage in these digital realms, it’s crucial to remember that we hold the power to shape our communities. It’s not about abandoning the digital space entirely; rather, it’s about seeking out and supporting new, safe alternatives where we can foster a more inclusive and respectful environment. After all, community is where we create our own narratives.
Interestingly, Elon Musk’s company (SpaceX) has provided more freedom of expression compared to the previous management of Twitter, as highlighted by the controversial Twitter Files controversy.
Lately, Mark Zuckerberg has pledged to replace Facebook’s potentially biased fact-checking mechanism with a system reminiscent of X, called “Community Notes” instead.
Again, more speech, not less.
Previously, Winter was in charge of a less-viewed documentary titled “The YouTube Effect.” This movie advocated for increased content control on platforms such as Google’s extensive video service. In an interview conducted in 2023, he suggested that conservative comedian Steven Crowder should be banned from the platform due to his actions inciting violence.
