Bill Burr didn’t particularly enjoy the surprise encounter with Billy Corgan during Howie Mandel‘s podcast.
Actor-comedian recently featured on an episode of the “Howie Mandel Does Stuff” podcast, during which the presenter unexpectedly introduced him to Billy Corgan, a member of the rock band Smashing Pumpkins, who had earlier hinted at a possible familial connection between them.
On The Rich Eisen Show on Monday, Burr admitted that the news wasn’t a pleasant surprise for him, because he generally prefers to keep personal matters private.
Howie acted as he did since he’s often seen as a sellout in Hollywood, and he seems unconcerned with the consequences. He had an opportunity to speak out, but instead, he stirred up more peculiarity.
In November, Corgan paid a visit to Mandel’s podcast and shared a memory from his past. He recounted a time when his stepmother told him: “Have you heard of Bill Burr?… It’s possible that one of the children your father had while he was a traveling musician could be Bill Burr.
Following that disclosure, Mandel had planned to arrange an unexpected “family gathering” during Burr’s recent visit, evidently causing him distress. Later on, the actor from “Breaking Bad” explained to Rich Eisen, “Billy is well. That was my first encounter with him and it was alright, but I did not approve of what Howie did. Absolutely not.
Nonetheless, Burr hasn’t completely severed connections with Mandel, as he acknowledged that the judge on “America’s Got Talent” is “somewhat difficult to dislike.” He further explained, “How can you hate someone who is a germaphobe? He’s not intimidating. He just walks with his arms crossed so he doesn’t touch curtains he owns… He’s an unusual man.
Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that Burr’s feelings of frustration remained unaltered due to being caught off guard by Corgan’s appearance. This displeasure was evident when he addressed Mandel during his podcast, using a strong term to describe the host, namely, “asshole.
As a fan, I’d rephrase it like this: “Funny enough, he didn’t seem to be inviting us for the purpose of mending the past hardships we experienced growing up. Instead, it felt more like a ratings game to him.” Later on, he even questioned Mandel, “So, what’s the plan? Are we going to have a friendly game of catch? We’re both in our 50s now.
