Bill Hader Says He Was Fired From Movie Theater Job for “Ruining the End of ‘Titanic’”

Bill Hader‘s time working for a movie theater clearly wasn’t going to be everlasting.

In a recent episode of Netflix’s “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney,” the Emmy-winning comedian reminisced about being let go from his cinema job due to spoiling the ending of “Titanic” for a group of sorority sisters.

On a recent Netflix episode of “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney,” the Emmy-winning comedian looked back on the time he was fired from his job at the cinema after accidentally revealing the ending of “Titanic” to a group of sorority sisters.

At that time, I used to work at a cinema, before the release of ‘Titanic’. A sorority had rented out the entire theater, and they were standing in the entrance. As I tried to ask them politely, ‘Hey, could you all please move?’, they started mocking me. They called me Charles Manson, which was somewhat fitting as I was wearing a bowtie and cummerbund at that moment. But instead of moving, they laughed it off saying, ‘No.'” The former ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast member recalled.

Hader explained, “When they came in and I tore the tickets, I said, ‘Enjoy the film. The ship goes down at the end. Leo perishes.’ They replied, ‘No, he doesn’t.’ I countered, ‘You believe he’s just sleeping. But he’s frozen solid.’ That clarified things for them.

Nevertheless, Barry shared that his supervisor had no choice but to let him go instantaneously because of his behavior. “My [superior] appeared cheerful, and he essentially stated, ‘Hello, Bill. I’m sorry, but I must terminate your employment.’ He seemed delighted,” Hader expressed. “He couldn’t meet my gaze, though.

This ending has been a topic of discussion online for years, as some fans argue that Jack might have survived if he had held onto the door differently or climbed onto it more quickly.

In 2023, during the celebration of Titanic’s 25th anniversary, Cameron carried out a scientific investigation to ascertain if there was sufficient space on the door for both Jack and Rose. After multiple tests, the movie director concluded, “It’s possible that Jack could have survived, but there are numerous factors involved.

Nevertheless, Cameron pointed out that Jack would go to any lengths to protect Rose, stating, “I believe his reasoning was: I won’t do anything that might endanger her. That’s completely in line with his character.
