Bill Maher did his usual President Donald Trump bashing on this week’s “Club Random” podcast.
He has consistently caused problems for the property tycoon, a situation that remains unaltered since their meeting with the 47th president last month.
Maher continues to keep his Democratic colleagues accountable frequently and persistently. Over the weekend, he criticized the party once more for their inability to instill knowledge in the upcoming generations of Americans.
Visitor Jillian Michaels expressed concern over her son’s struggling reading abilities, attributing some of the issue to the lengthy COVID-19 restrictions. This seemed especially relevant in states with a blue hue, such as California, where she resides during the pandemic, and pointed out that these lockdowns may have played a role.
Michaels was pondering the influence that the Teachers Union may have had on the decision for prolonged school closures, as he linked their directives to the situation.
“Tremendously!” Maher said, jumping in. “Are you kidding?”
As a passionate cinephile, I’d rephrase it like this: During these unprecedented times, it was the teachers unions who took the lead in keeping schools closed indefinitely. This decision came even after the president of the American Federation of Teachers, Randi Weingarten, spoke up following numerous studies that suggested a correlation between school closures due to the pandemic and decreasing test scores.
She claims the union fought to get kids back in class. Reality begs to differ.
In 2020, her union hinted at conducting “safety protests” and effectively persuaded the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to establish stricter criteria for resuming in-person schooling. The union’s efforts proved fruitful; their recommendations were incorporated into the CDC guidance with minimal changes in at least two cases. It appeared that the CDC was not adhering to the “scientific approach.” Instead, they seemed to be prioritizing the “political agenda.
Maher expanded the conversation to the big educational picture. And it’s not pretty.
In simpler terms, “Maher argued that Democrats should take full responsibility for education since it’s a key part of their role in the government. He’s emphasizing this by saying they ‘own it,’ and he pointed out that many Democratic conventions have a significant number of teachers among their delegates.
The humorist momentarily paid tribute to educators as a group, recognizing their dedication despite receiving relatively low wages. However, it didn’t stop there.
I’ve come to realize that the Democratic party seems excessively tied to the Teachers Union. However, it’s crucial not to overlook the significance of reading skills, but rather question the content they are teaching and what exactly the students are being asked to read. After all, knowledge isn’t just about reading; it’s also about understanding and applying what we read.
In certain instances, there are narratives with strong sexual connotations that some parents would prefer not to be available in their children’s schools.
“I talk to too many young people who don’t seem to know anything,” Maher added.
