Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers and H.E.R. Expected to Perform at the Paris Olympics Closing Ceremony

As a music enthusiast who has lived through the golden age of rock ‘n’ roll and witnessed the rise of modern pop, I couldn’t be more excited about this year’s Paris Olympics closing ceremony! The lineup featuring Billie Eilish, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and H.E.R., along with Tom Cruise’s skydiving stunt, promises an electrifying blend of old-school charm and contemporary flair.

It’s anticipated that the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Olympics will showcase performances by Billie Eilish and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Furthermore, H.E.R. is expected to perform the American national anthem, as reported by the Associated Press, to symbolize the transition for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The closing ceremony will feature the artists in a mix of pre-taped and live performances.

In their latest statement, the Olympics revealed that the closing ceremony will showcase over a hundred artists specializing in performance, acrobatics, dance, and circus acts. This grand spectacle is being orchestrated by Thomas Jolly, who also directed the artistic aspects of the opening ceremony. Unlike the Seine-side opening, this event will take place indoors and promises an original soundtrack, fresh interpretations, live musical performances, and collaborations with globally recognized vocalists.

“The event called ‘Records’ will feature part of it happening above us, while intricate sets, captivating costumes, and mesmerizing light displays will transport viewers through temporal landscapes, encompassing both the past and the future,” is one way to paraphrase the original statement.

The initial event was equally glamorous as the final showcase, with the notable appearances of Celine Dion making her comeback after her Stiff-Person Syndrome diagnosis – her first public performance since then – and Lady Gaga.

Apart from the musical acts during the closing ceremony, there are rumors that Tom Cruise will perform a daring skydive to the Hollywood Sign as part of a pre-recorded segment for the L.A. handover ceremony. Initially, it was planned for a grand event to happen at Will Rogers State Beach, where the Olympic flag would be passed on. However, this idea was abandoned due to concerns from the LAPD about closing Pacific Coast Highway for an extended period and difficulties in obtaining necessary permits from the California Coastal Commission.

Cruise was seen participating in various Olympic events, such as the women’s gymnastics competition where Simone Biles eventually claimed four medals. Other celebrities spotted at the Olympics include Greta Gerwig, Ariana Grande, Tom Brady, Flavor Flav, Cynthia Erivo, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, Nick Jonas, Anna Wintour, and Snoop Dogg. The latter had several viral moments in Paris as he assisted NBC with their primetime coverage.

The live broadcast of the closing ceremony will be aired on NBC and Peacock this coming Sunday, from 12:00 PM to 2:15 PM Pacific Time. The event itself is happening at the Stade de France, which is located just north of Paris.

Variety first reported the Billie Eilish and Red Hot Chili Peppers performance news.
