As a long-time fan of Akili McDowell‘s work, this news has left me stunned and saddened. From his compelling performances on “Billions” and “David Makes Man,” it was clear that he had a bright future ahead of him. It is truly heartbreaking to see such talent marred by these circumstances.
An up-and-coming performer, known for his roles on the Showtime show ‘Billions’ and the OWN show ‘David Makes Man’, as well as several big-screen films, is currently under arrest and facing charges for the murder of a young individual.
Over the weekend, I found myself in hot water when authorities accused me, at 21 years old, of taking another life. The unfortunate victim was Cesar Peralta. According to a post made on Sheriff Ed Gonzalez’s Facebook page by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, they’ve charged me with murder. I was apprehended and now I’m locked up in the Harris County Jail, as per the statement.
On July 20th, as reported by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, their deputies were called to a scene located at 13503 North Thorntree, an apartment complex in East Harris County. Upon arrival, they found an adult male, who was initially thought to be around his twenties.
On the tragic night of the incident, a 20-year-old individual later recognized as Cesar Peralta, suffered fatal gunshots and was declared dead right there. The authorities reported that the culprit escaped from the crime scene after committing the homicide.
McDowell, who played Savion Williams in two installments of “Billions,” also appeared in the series “David Makes Man.” This show, written by Tarell Alvin McCraney, the writer of “Moonlight,” follows a young, gifted individual navigating his way out of poverty. The series debuted in 2019 and spanned 20 episodes across two seasons. Additionally, McDowell will be featured prominently in the upcoming movie “The Waterboyz.”
Back in August, I found myself in a rather tricky situation. Harris County police records revealed that at the time of my arrest on suspicion of murder on the 2nd, I was already out on bond for a theft charge. Interestingly enough, I had been taken into custody over the theft allegations just the day prior to my arrest concerning the murder of Peralta.
A message I sent to the Harris County Sheriff’s Department concerning McDowell’s arrest didn’t get a response by Monday afternoon.
McDowell currently remains in custody at the Harris County Jail Facility, with his bond being set at $400,000 as of Monday afternoon, according to online jail records. The police department has stated that their investigation into this case is ongoing, and they are soliciting any relevant information from the public. Anyone with details about this case can reach out to the Homicide Unit by dialing 713-274-9100.
