The upcoming 2025 TV schedule will feature Super Bowl LIX, and with it comes numerous commercials. Notably, Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan, along with Sydney Sweeney, are set to appear in one of these ads. These two actors have reunited after many years since starring in the timeless romantic comedy, “When Harry Met Sally…” The ad recreates their famous characters in a scene at Katz Deli. Now, they share why they chose to reprise their roles and entertain yet another gathering of deli patrons.
Before listening to the actors’ remarks, be sure to first take a good look at the commercial itself, with its nostalgic charm intact. Not only does it effectively honor Rob Reiner’s iconic 1989 movie, but it also demonstrates that the two main actors still share the same magical chemistry. Here is an amusing depiction of how they convincingly portrayed another on-screen climax:
Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan recently discussed with CNN about potentially revisiting the romantic journey of their iconic characters from their classic film. Previously, the actor and comedian shared fond memories at Katz’s Deli, expressing that “When Harry Met Sally…” remains significant for him. In the interview, the actress from “You’ve Got Mail” disclosed her enthusiasm to participate in this endeavor as a testament to fans (and themselves) that Sally Albright and Harry Burns remain strong after all these years.
Even though it may not have been their initial plan, what we appreciate about it is that it feels like you’re a part of their “happily ever after.” After thirty-five years, it seems as if they continue to be there for each other, maintaining their unique bond and communication style. It’s almost as if they’ve subtly included a nod to the movie in their relationship.
As a devotee, I stand with the actress from “Sleepless in Seattle.” Should this chance to revisit the characters bring along a dash of Hellmann’s Mayo, I’m game. After 35 years since the film was released, it’s heartwarming to pay tribute and get a glimpse into Harry and Sally’s lives today. It’s comforting to learn that those involved believe that not much has altered for the pair, and that the two leads remain friends. (By the way, Ryan recently poked fun at Crystal regarding the famous orgasm scene.)
As a cinephile, I can’t help but highlight the swift appearance of Sydney Sweeney, which was simply captivating. Notably, her role was accentuated by the iconic phrase, “I’ll have what she’s having.
Sydney Sweeney’s unexpected appearance certainly adds a nice touch. It’s understandable why she was chosen given her growing popularity in romantic comedies. However, I must admit, I was hoping to see Billie Lourd, daughter of the late “WHMS” alum Carrie Fisher, as it would have added an extra special element to the reunion.
Billy Crystal concurred with his coworker’s thoughts on reunion. He further discussed their camaraderie on set many years ago and compared it to their bond today.
Is the appropriate term “comfortable” for the feeling? Frankly, I’m not sure, but it seems fitting! It’s something that’s hard to put into words. From the moment Meg entered when we first met, I sensed it. I was already cast in the movie, and when Meg came in to discuss and read, we both instinctively said, “Let’s begin filming.” There was an immediate sense of rightness and excitement. Today, too, as we stepped onto the set together, it was like, “Here we are again.” Same table, same pastrami sandwich, same post-lunch discomfort. And yes, it felt quite satisfying.
As a movie enthusiast, I must admit that I wasn’t anticipating the delightful reunion of Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan in a Super Bowl Hellmann’s mayo commercial. Yet, upon reflection, it seems like a splendid idea, given their enthusiasm to resurrect these iconic characters once more. As a devoted fan of “When Harry Met Sally,” I can’t help but express my gratitude for this reunion – not only did they oblige, but they also invited the talented Sydney Sweeney to join them on this nostalgic journey. This sweet commercial serves as a heartwarming reminder of why we fell in love with the titular couple in the first place.
The advertisement is set to broadcast alongside several others during Super Bowl LIX, an event you can catch live on CBS television on Sunday, February 9th, or by streaming it with a Paramount+ subscription.
