So, I’ve been quite delighted to learn about the achievements in that genre on upcoming TV schedules, particularly the revival of The Day of the Jackal on Peacock and Netflix’s Black Doves. Keira Knightley’s highly anticipated series has indeed been making waves on its platform, but it’s already been overshadowed by domestic competition.
To put it simply, the shows that have overtaken the thriller genre are either ones I’ve already seen or have added to my list of shows to watch. The competition in this field is fierce and includes many winners. Currently, as of publication, “Black Doves” ranks fourth among Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows on the U.S. side, which isn’t bad for a new show. However, when you look at what’s currently leading the charts, it’s clear that this is a tough battle: a worthy contest indeed.

Indeed, this isn’t just another instance where the prolonged success of Titanic at the 1998 box office is surpassed by Lost in Space; a statement made with deep affection for that overlooked sci-fi masterpiece. Instead, you’ve got a series about volcanic disasters, a dark comedy featuring Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano from the creator of Dead To Me, and Jamie Foxx returning to stand-up comedy.
As a devoted fan, I must say that Mr. Foxx’s exceptional performance in his special presentation left me in awe. I admire this genre as an art form of remarkable gamesmanship. Moreover, projects that delve into grounded disaster scenarios and dark comedy, providing artists with the chance to showcase their range, are personal favorites of mine. It seems like this could be a win-win situation, although ultimately, the success would hinge on individual preferences when it comes to entertainment.
For a brief moment, let’s revisit “Black Doves”. I can hardly wait to immerse myself in this series starring Ben Whishaw during the upcoming holiday break. However, after reading Riley Utley’s intense “Black Doves” binge session, I find myself quite intrigued about my response towards the familiar voice and appearance of characters such as Q from Daniel Craig’s James Bond films and Paddington Bear in this distinctively different production.
That opportunity to see performers showing off their range and their natural talents is what makes this all so exciting though. And it seems like the three projects ahead of Black Doves tap into that idea too.
Just like many streaming platforms, there are times when it seems challenging to find something to watch, while other periods seem overflowing with options. Currently, Netflix appears to belong to the latter category, so if you’re looking for entertainment before the new year arrives, you might be pleasantly surprised and easily entertained.
