Black Myth: Wukong Chapter Two Secret explained - How to complete the Boar quest

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent traversing mystical realms and vanquishing formidable foes, I must say that the Boar questline in Black Myth: Wukong is an intriguing twist on the typical side mission. The hunt for the Sobering Stone and the Arhat Gold Piece adds a layer of complexity that keeps one guessing, much like a well-woven detective novel.

In contrast to the initial chapter’s secret, Chapter Two’s enigma concerning Black Myth: Wukong is more intricate and extended, yet it ultimately paves the way to one of the most exciting boss battles within the game.

Here’s everything you need to know about the secret and the related Boar questline.

How to start the Boar quest

To embark on the Boar quest, make your way to the Fright Cliff region, which is located in chapter two. Following Sandgate Village, continue your journey by crossing a wooden bridge spanning the water, and passing under a stone archway to reach this location.

Navigate your path until you reach the Rockrest Flat Shrine, and in the rear of this location, you’ll discover a wooden gate that opens onto a precipice.

As a gamer, I find myself approaching a boisterous boar perched atop a boulder smack-dab in the middle of my gaming world. To set off the adventure, all I need to do is engage with him. He’s clearly had one too many and seems unable to budge without a Sobering Stone to help him sober up again.

Where to find a Sobering Stone

As a devoted admirer of the enigmatic Sobering Stone, allow me to share with you two distinct methods for its acquisition. Personally, I find the initial approach more straightforward and appealing:

  1. Back in the first area of Fright Cliff, you can find an NPC called Man-in-Stone at the bottom of a ravine, who can sell the Sobering Stone to you. To unlock his shop, you’ll need to head into the cave nearby, defeat the Mother of Stone enemy, and bring back the Essence of Stone. Attack him to start a fight, and then talk to him after beating him. Rest at a Shrine and return to use his services and purchase the Sobering Stone.
  2. The other method requires you to travel to the Windrest Hamlet, on the other side of the map, past the Crouching Tiger Temple. In a small alcove, you can find a glowing pot, and breaking it will reward you with the Sobering Stone.

After getting the stone, make your way back to the Boar. Hand over the stone to him then. He might tell you that he’s going out to look for food, so you’ll have to track him down once more.

Finding the Boar at Crouching Tiger Temple

To locate the Crouching Tiger Temple, make your way from the cave situated at the base of the stairs exiting Sandgate Village. Ascend the temple’s steps, and upon reaching the summit, you will discover a Boar figure resting on the floor towards the right side, positioned near the top.

As a fan, I’d put it like this: Since the meal at the temple wasn’t great, he might ask for some Jade Lotus from you, which you’ve probably amassed quite a bit by now. But if you haven’t, don’t worry! You can find it in bodies of water like ponds. I suggest you take a quick dip at the shallow lake on the map from chapter two to gather some Jade Lotus.

Once you hand it over to him, he’ll comment on a golden artifact. The artifact you’re after is the Arhat Gold Piece that you should gather.

How to get the Arhat Gold Piece

You can grab the Arhat Gold Piece in the aforementioned Valley of Despair cave in the previous section. You may already have it if you killed the King of Flowing Sands, and then ventured into the cave, as a cutscene will play that summons the First Prince of Flowing Sands.

As a gamer, here’s how I’d put it: “Beating the First Prince of Flowing Sands earns you an item. If you haven’t taken him down yet, the Boar will hand you a Pungent Flesh Chunk. You can use this chunk to summon the First Prince if you venture into his cave.”

Now it’s time to find the Boar once more.

Returning to the Boar

You can head back to the ominous Fright Cliffs once more, where you initially spotted the Boar. Unlike your previous encounter, he won’t be resting on the rocky outcropping; instead, he’ll be found closer to the big entrance gate, specifically on the right side.

Stepping near him might ignite a skirmish, hence it’s crucial to vanquish him first to restore peace. Doing so will initiate a cinematic sequence, where he passes through the grand stone archway behind him, thereby opening up the path for me to enter that expansive zone.

Secret area explained

As soon as you step into the grand stone cavern, a new scene unfolds, featuring the Boar sharing some historical details with you. Then, you’ll be whisked away to a bygone era – the Kingdom of Sahali.

This area has two boss fights, along with some hidden treasures around the edge of the cliffs that close you in, along with a Meditation Spot on some rocks.

Overcoming the Fuban boss (the chief antagonist of this region) will provide you with some fresh armor options for crafting, if desired, and also bestow upon you the Wind Tamer Vessel, an essential item that will help you tackle the Yellow Wind Sage boss more effectively at the conclusion of chapter two.
