Black Myth: Wukong Old Rattle-Drum Quest explained - How to find the Mad Tiger

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours poured into action-packed adventures, I must say that Black Myth: Wukong has been an absolute delight to play. The Old Rattle Drum quest, although seemingly cryptic at first, was a refreshing challenge that tested my gaming acumen and patience.

In Black Myth: Wukong, there are several hidden missions scattered throughout the game, and you aren’t explicitly guided on how to complete them. The Old-Rattle Drum quest is one such mission, as you obtain the item from a specific boss without any clear instructions about where to apply it or what actions to take next.

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently guide you through the latter stages of this game’s second chapter. Here’s what you need to know for a smooth and successful quest completion.

Finding the Old Rattle-Drum

The Old Rattle-Drum is found on the Tiger’s Acolyte boss. They’re located past the Windrest Hamlet Shrine, on a narrow bridge leading into a large cave.

To reach this spot, begin at the Crouching Tiger Temple, proceed through the temple, continue journeying throughout the entire village, and eventually, you’ll arrive at the Shrine located at its conclusion.

Rattling locations

After discovering the ancient drum known as the Rattle-Drum, your task will be to identify three distinct spots where it can produce its rhythmic sound. This will set off the subsequent phase of your journey.

Rattling location 1

To start, retrace your steps towards the Windrest Hamlet Shrine. Proceed along the path as it leads you into the village. Once you’ve entered through the gateway, veer to your left.

As you move along this path, you’ll come across a spot marked by a grey screen. Keep going until you reach further ahead, and a button prompt will appear on the screen, initiating the first cutscene where you’ll be using the drum.

Rattling location 2

Consider returning to the Shrine as a means to transport yourself to the Valley of Despair Shrine, your next destination.

From this location, you should proceed by walking through the substantial stone gates that lie ahead in this region. However, if you haven’t unlocked these doors yet, you’ll require two specific items: Sterness of Stone and Keeness of Tiger. You can obtain the former from the Stone Vanguard situated within the Fright Cliffs area, while the latter is found on the Tiger Vanguard in the Crouching Tiger Temple.

Approach the pedestal to unlock the doors, then proceed along the path. Prior to reaching the bridge, veer right and pass through the wooden structure, and you’ll discover the second noisy spot.

Rattling location 3

Head back to the shrine you recently warped to, and then make your way into the Sandgate Village, which is where our next destination lies.

Walk out through the entrance, then keep going along the path that circles around, passing by wooden homes and leading into a larger space with a pond. In the far, rear corner of this open area, you’ll spot a petite stone wall.

Once you get beyond a small part of the brick wall, you’ll discover the third spot. Shaking the drum in this area will initiate a scene where a spirit boy appears, descends into a well, and requests that you trail after him.

Bottom of the Well

At the base of the well is where you’ll encounter the formidable leader of the Mad Tigers; he stands out among the three principal tiger leaders of this chapter, with the Tiger Vanquisher from the Chapter Two Secret being another notable challenge.

Overcoming him will grant you an accomplishment, a “Blood of the Iron Bull artifact”, and the “Mad Tiger Spirit”. Should you have previously vanquished both the Tiger Vanguard and the Tiger’s Acolyte as well, you’ll receive an extra achievement.

To the left side of the arena, you’ll find another container holding the Plaguebane Gourd. This item temporarily boosts your attack power but simultaneously reduces your healing capacity by half.
