As someone who has dabbled in their fair share of Soulslikes and has a soft spot for games that delve into mythology, I must say that Black Myth: Wukong has truly caught my attention. While it’s not quite fair to compare it directly to Elden Ring just yet, the similarities are undeniably intriguing.
Hey there! I couldn’t help but notice that a captivating game titled Black Myth: Wukong has recently made its debut. Although technically not a Soulslike, it’s certainly aiming to be the next big thing in this genre. What’s caught everyone’s attention lately isn’t just the gameplay, but also the buzz surrounding behind-the-scenes drama and staggering player numbers that are breaking records!
For individuals engrossed in the captivating mythological universe of Black Myth: Wukong developed by Game Science, while trying to avoid online discussions, they can’t help but notice the striking similarities drawn between this game and Elden Ring.
Black Myth: Wukong already has its own Tree Sentinel
“Oh the game is easy! Maybe I can finish it without dying”

In Black Myth: Wukong, much like other Soulslike or Souls-inspired games, you should be prepared for numerous character deaths. Navigating the game world as the Destined One, you will encounter a variety of anthropomorphic adversaries and eerie entities that seem fitting for Elden Ring.
Initially, you might run into the round, large-bodied Wandering Wight. Despite its resemblance to a giant infant, be cautious as this foe has proven challenging for some gamers, causing them to drop their controllers. Similar to the Tree Sentinel in Elden Ring, the Wandering Wight is an opponent you may face at an inappropriately low level – rumored to return at a later time.
As an ardent fan, I haven’t let the fact that many others have dived headlong into the challenge of defeating the Wandering Wight with innocent optimism deter me. While there’s always a chance of success, those who attempt to take it on early in their journey should be prepared to invest significant time into overcoming this formidable adversary.
1. Regarding that formidable adversary, one spectator commented, “I was well aware I could leave and return later, but no, that’s not how it goes. Yet, this battle tested my patience more than countless bosses from souls games.” Another chimed in, “It took me nearly 6 hours to defeat the first two bosses. I must admit, I resorted to watching a video on how to conquer him.“
How to beat the Wandering Wight
Despite managing to defeat most of the bosses in Black Myth Wukong within 1 or 2 attempts, this particular opponent, “Wandering Wight”, has proven to be remarkably challenging, defeating me from various angles!

It’s fortunate that numerous instructional videos on defeating the enemy with a large head are readily available online. It appears that the task becomes less daunting once you understand the steps. Some advise having a stockpile of Antidote Against Evil, but keep in mind, at this stage, the supply is still limited.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that you can’t obtain the Gourd’s spirit until a later stage. However, if you’re keen on challenging him, I recommend trying to unlock the Crash ability for the Immobilize spell. This will help in gradually reducing his health meter. Furthermore, remember to invest your Sparks in enhancing your health and stamina as well.
1. The Roaming Wight typically links his attacks, and although some are clearly indicated, it’s wise to attempt to immobilize and combine attacks to disrupt his attack chain. His Ranged Blast can be lethal, but if you maintain a safe distance and swiftly move forward, you can sneak in for a quick combo, stagger him, and possibly even knock him down.
Despite suggestions to confront the Wandering Wight after advancing deeper into the Bamboo Forest on Black Wind Mountain, a more strategic approach would be to first defeat the Guangzhi Yaoguai Chief and acquire his Transformation Spell. While it’s possible to engage the Wandering Wight immediately upon encountering him, we strongly advise against it due to the potential loss of valuable time.
