As a seasoned Call of Duty player with over a decade under my belt, I must say that the new characters and storylines for Black Ops Cold War Zombies have truly piqued my interest. The introduction of Maya Aguinaldo, a young Filipina smuggler, adds a fresh perspective to the series, and her backstory hints at an intriguing family dynamic with her brother also trapped on Terminus island.
As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to announce that Treyarch is stepping up to the battleground once again! Following the grueling spectacle of WWE-style combat in Modern Warfare 3, they’re ready to take center stage with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
In 2024, the renowned creator of the Zombies mode in Call of Duty is set to make a comeback, starting with an intense, otherworldly battle royale styled game, often referred to as a “hell-in-a-cell” deathmatch.
Approaching the unveiling of Black Ops 6, let’s explore all the essential details about the Zombies mode. We’ll cover the game maps, characters, and delve into the intricate storyline behind it.
All maps
In Black Ops 6, you’ll find yourself in two thrilling zombie arenas for a round-based experience, marking the first time since Black Ops 4 that a Call of Duty game offers this adrenaline-pumping undead combat.
Terminus
The initially unveiled map is named Terminus, bearing a striking resemblance to Call of the Dead in its design.
As a passionate enthusiast, I’m excited about the upcoming game scenario set on a secluded island. The characters, finding themselves incarcerated, will make a daring bid for freedom from this enigmatic prison. Reminiscent of the Alcatraz-inspired maps we’ve seen before (such as Terminus being its own penitentiary), the heart of the action will unfold beyond the cell blocks. Players will embark on an adventure, venturing down the island in search of the elusive Pack-a-Punch machine and Perk-o-Colas.
Liberty Falls
Liberty Falls stands out as the more expansive map compared to its counterpart, boasting a deep connection to both Green Run and Tranzit in terms of storyline.
Though details about Liberty Falls’ storyline are scant, it’s said that the game’s map mirrors a quaint Virginia town, complete with a church and a barn.
All characters
Multiple personalities from the Call of Duty franchise are well-known for their distinct appearances, such as the iconic Think Tank Dempsey and Samantha Maxis.
In this current narrative, we see some well-known figures reappearing, as well as fresh personalities stepping up to battle the hordes of the undead.
Two sets of characters, one for each map, will be used:
Terminus
Grigori Weaver – Grigori Weaver is well-known for his long-standing role in the Zombies series, appearing in every game that includes Element 115. Despite his supposed demise in Modern Warfare 3, Black Ops 6 takes place earlier in the timeline, allowing him to reappear wearing his signature eyepatch (thanks to Lev Kravchenko) as he tries to escape from Terminus prison.
Mackenzie “Mac” Carver – Initially, Mac appeared in Cold War, serving as the Director of Containment and Security at Requiem. He was among those who were incarcerated when Samantha Maxis sealed herself inside the Dark Aether at the conclusion of Forsaken.
Dr. Elizabeth Grey – It’s important to note that Dr. Elizabeth Grey is distinct from Peaky Blinders’ Polly. In the game Cold War, she was presented as a character belonging to Requiem, serving as Head of the Unnatural Sciences. She shares a significant bond with Samantha, being the surrogate mother of her daughter Ava.
Oskar Strauss was appointed as the Head of Energy Research in the group known as Requiem, alongside Carver, Grey, and himself. Prior to the incidents depicted in Modern Warfare 3, these four individuals were known to have perished while safeguarding an Aetherium container device. Consequently, we can anticipate that they will all demonstrate remarkable bravery and skill in the upcoming events.
Meet Maya Aguinaldo, our newest character – a spirited young Filipino woman with smuggling skills. She sets foot on Terminus island with a mission to free the crew and, unveiled in the trailers, she has a sibling trapped on the same island who needs saving too. Her past remains shrouded in mystery for now.
It has been unveiled that Maddox is none other than “Raptor One,” a renowned figure recognized for his role as the helicopter pilot involved in exfiltrations during the Cold War. This individual exudes a cool aura, and that’s really all you need to know – he gives off Top Gun-like vibes.
Dr. William Peck initially appeared dead following the occurrences of Forsaken, when he betrayed Kravchenko by firing at a gas line, leading to an enormous explosion. However, five years later, he resurfaced with noticeable burn scars, making his return as one of the playable characters alongside Maya, Grey, and Carver.
Liberty Falls
In Liberty Falls, the characters have not been unveiled as of now, but they will form a distinct group apart from Terminus. Since many characters from Cold War are stationed at Terminus, it is probable that Liberty Falls will introduce an entirely fresh crew.
The Director
As someone who has spent countless hours immersed in the thrilling world of zombie survival games, I can confidently say that the interconnected nature of these two maps in our favorite game is a brilliant move by the developers. Having two simultaneous outbreaks adds an extra layer of challenge and realism to the gameplay experience. However, it’s not just the undead hordes we have to watch out for – there’s a common enemy that lurks behind the scenes, pulling the strings: The Director. With years of gaming under my belt, I can attest to the fact that this shadowy figure has a knack for making even the most seasoned player sweat.
Acting as the puppeteer antagonist is none other than Dr. Edward Richtofen.
As an eager admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Nolan North has hinted at his upcoming appearance, which could potentially mean we get to play as the character Eddie at some point in the year!
Storylines and secret characters
Terminus
In simpler terms, Terminus is a sequel to Forsaken. After the events depicted in the last Cold War map, Richtofen trapped all the characters from Requiem. He tricked his old friend Samantha into the Dark Aether and kept her from participating further.
For the past five years, Weaver, Carver, Grey, Strauss, and Maddox have been incarcerated on an island. After a close call with an explosion that nearly cost him his life, Peck has managed to regain his strength and teamed up with Aguinaldo for the mission of infiltrating Terminus and orchestrate a rescue operation to free the imprisoned crew.
Although Aguinaldo seems to have her own narrative unfolding, we don’t know who exactly her brother is within the story. He remains a mystery character, with some speculating that he could be Takeo Masaki from the Aether Story. This theory is intriguing because although Takeo is Japanese, it has been suggested that Aguinaldo and Peck meet him in Japan before they journey to Terminus Island in the Philippine Sea.
Liberty Falls
Liberty Falls, a town in West Virginia, has seen numerous hints and Easter egg searches so far, but none have truly unveiled the tale this place holds. It’s plausible that new character journeys may unfold with the introduction of Element 115, and there might even be a map reminiscent of Tranzit featuring the Jet Gun. However, the story itself remains a mystery to be uncovered.
Additional gameplay details
Round-based action in its finest form
In simpler terms, you can expect the Black Ops 6 Zombies gameplay to bring back the classic feel of the original series by returning to the traditional, level-based structure.
In the initial two maps, you’ll find a Pack-a-Punch machine, Perk-a-Cola dispensers, a Mystery Box, and several potent Wonderweapons.
In addition to Mutant Injections, you’ll encounter a fresh attribute. This additional feature will empower you further against the un-living, offering a hint of revenge by using their traits against them.
Two game modes
It seems that Treyarch is planning to introduce a fresh method for experiencing the Zombies mode, along with the traditional gameplay option.
In Standard mode, you’ll carry on battling hordes of the undead. Additionally, you have the choice to uncover hints and hidden treasures that might reveal the secrets of the future.
In a new option referred to as ‘Guided’, players will encounter a story-based experience where they’ll face off against only 15 rounds of Zombies. This limited engagement is designed to allow ample time for players to finish the game’s main narrative quests.
Loadouts
As a gamer, I’m excited that loadouts are making a comeback in Zombies! This means I can work towards unlocking camos and leveling up my guns for both multiplayer and Warzone. If I prefer to start with my trusty sidearm, that’s perfectly fine. But if I want a powerful arsenal right from the beginning, I can call upon all the weapons from Black Ops 6!
Enemies
Besides the typical undead soldiers, the zombie horde will also deploy explosive spiders as part of their hunting strategy against you.
As a long-time fan of the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, I can confidently say that I am eagerly awaiting the release of Black Ops 6. This guide, which is currently under development, promises to be an invaluable resource for players like myself as more information about Zombies becomes available. Having played every installment since the original Black Ops, I know firsthand the thrill and excitement that comes with uncovering hidden secrets and strategies in the game’s Zombies mode. I trust that the developers will continue to deliver on the high-quality content they have become known for, and I am excited to see how the Zombies experience evolves in Black Ops 6.
