Black Ops 6’s new homing knife threatens to break multiplayer

Black Ops 6's new homing knife threatens to break multiplayer

As a seasoned Call of Duty player with over a decade under my belt, I can attest to the thrill and excitement that comes with mastering the art of throwing knives. From the early days of noob tubes and cross-map Tomahawks, we’ve come a long way, but nothing quite compares to the satisfaction of landing a well-placed knife throw.

Among avid Call of Duty enthusiasts, there’s a particular fondness for well-placed throwing knives. In earlier times, noob tubes were swapped out for long-range Tomahawks and knipes (a term that combines ‘knife’ and ‘pike’), as players would often hurl their gear from the spawn point, aiming for an immediate kill across the map.

In the same vein as their past successes, Black Ops 6 is aiming to surpass previous installments by going bigger and more impressive. This enhancement is also seen in the throwing knives feature, where a Homing Knife seems to be introduced, essentially turning a blade into a guided missile packed with dynamite. Regrettably, the community has expressed significant apprehension about its potential effects on multiplayer gameplay.

Black Ops 6 fans fear the Homing Knife could break multiplayer

During the presentation of Black Ops 6 Campaign gameplay at Gamescom’s Open Night Live event, it was shown that players now have access to a throwable weapon called a Homing Knife. These knives seem to be scattered throughout the missions for collection by the players.

The knife was used in the reveal, as it shows Troy Marshall selecting the equipment from a wheel of different back-pocket toys (like grenades). He then wields it and launches it at a rabble of enemies – soon blowing them to smithereens.

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of unease about this latest update. With my past encounters with cheaters in multiplayer games, I remember the frustration and disappointment that came with it. The thought of having aimbot in multiplayer is like adding salt to an open wound for many players, myself included. If the developers decide to implement this feature, it could potentially disrupt the fairness and enjoyment of the gameplay experience for everyone. So, here’s hoping they reconsider their decision or find a way to ensure that the use of such tools remains prohibited within the multiplayer environment.

It was humorously suggested that playing Batman Arkham games equipped people with the skills needed for Black Ops 6, implying that those who have dabbled in both the Asylum and any Max Payne title could swiftly rise to the top of the leaderboards.

Black Ops 6’s Homing Knife could be a multiplayer killstreak

In simpler terms, it seems clear that the “homing knife” in question serves a purpose similar to a “killstreak” in the game Black Ops 6. The campaign demonstrated various killstreaks, including the RC-XD, which can act as a carrier for such a weapon.

In the game series, it’s common to encounter killstreak rewards that zero in on enemies, such as the latest Mosquito drone – a single projectile that splits into a swarm, delivering accurate explosions upon impact.

Placing the Homing Knife in a lower-level reward for killstreaks might be an ideal spot for this weapon, considering it may not be as popular as a UAV or Missiles like Hellstorm/Cruise, yet it could still provide entertaining opportunities for scoring easy kills.

Still, it might be worth adding Arkham Asylum to your playlist before Black Ops 6, as it appears the Wayne-Payne combination will be a winner in 2024.
