Black Ops 6’s ‘underwhelming’ Firing Range has fans demanding an Apex Legends glow-up

Black Ops 6's 'underwhelming' Firing Range has fans demanding an Apex Legends glow-up

As a seasoned Call of Duty player with decades under my gaming belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia tinged with disappointment when it comes to the Firing Range in Black Ops 6. For years, we’ve been yearning for a more immersive, interactive experience akin to what Apex Legends and XDefiant offer.

For quite some time, enthusiasts of the Call of Duty series have longed for an authentic shooting range experience. Rather than engaging in regular gameplay, they frequently resort to private matches or customized lobbies to experiment with different weaponry instead.

Players didn’t have the opportunity to practice with their weapons in a lobby using moving targets until Modern Warfare 2 introduced this feature for gun testing.

However, the gun layout in Black Ops 6 is quite simple, and if future updates continue to offer similar elements, it’s causing players to feel “unimpressed” and yearning for an upgrade, much like what Apex Legends or XDefiant have experienced.

Similar to all aspects of Black Ops 6, there have been disclosures revealing the Firing Range – not the infamous Treyarch multiplayer map that includes Nuketown, but instead the practice ground where weapons are tested prior to the game.

Despite attempts at novelty with its wooden saloon facade, it seems this section has been repetitively duplicated from earlier versions. Regrettably, instead of a captivating space for firing .50 caliber rifles, it appears more akin to the interior of a cardboard box.

Participants had high expectations for a broader experience from this straightforward zone, particularly following their exposure to games like Apex Legends and XDefiant, which offer expansive spaces for movement and weapon testing against numerous types of targets at varying distances.

Given the rumors spreading around, players are using social platforms to urge developers to draw inspiration from other games and offer a wider variety of options instead.

As a well-known gamer like IceManIsaac, I’m constantly here due to my love for Black Ops 6. And let me tell you, the firing range could really use an upgrade – it’s starting to look a bit outdated compared to the rest of the game.

He remarked, “Consider XDefiant: It offers real-time time-to-kill and accuracy calculations, a recoil comparison chart, multiple targets at different distances and angles, and spaces for movement practice. However, this feature has been disappointingly underdeveloped for quite some time now.”

Other supporters concurred, with one expressing, “I hoped for an Apex-style shooting range, given the introduction of fresh movement mechanics. It seems we’re currently standing in a phone booth, such a shooting range would fit perfectly well.”

In earlier versions of Call of Duty, particularly during the World War II era, players had access to a larger pre-game gathering space that included a shooting range and a mini track. Now, as Black Ops 6 approaches its complete launch, there’s room for adjustments in this area. Fingers crossed for enhancements in the coming months.
