As a long-time gamer and avid comic book fan, I was absolutely thrilled when I heard that Deadpool and Wolverine were teaming up for their own movie! The hype had been building for months as fans speculated about which actors would make surprise appearances. And oh boy, was the reveal during the premiere night a doozy!
The following contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine! You have been warned…
As Deadpool and Wolverine fight their way past the Time Variance Authority’s minions, they encounter Emma Corrin’s Cassandra Nova. In this battle, a multitude of beloved superhero figures make an unexpected appearance. For months, the internet has been buzzing with speculation over which actors might join Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in their roles. There were leaks, interviews, and even some denials as fans tirelessly tried to guess who would be unveiled in the MCU’s inaugural R-rated production. The premiere night finally put all the rumors to rest, but one cameo left fans stunned due to a complex past.
Without a doubt, the most astonishing guest role in the movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” belongs to Wesley Snipes as Blade. Alongside Elektra (played by Jennifer Garner), Gambit (Channing Tatum), and Laura/X23 (Dafne Keen), Blade assists Deadpool and Wolverine in escaping from the Void. Since his portrayal of the Daywalker 20 years ago (excluding his cameo in “What We Do In the Shadows“) in “Blade: Trinity“, Snipes has reprised this iconic character.
In the movie, Snipes acted alongside a young Ryan Reynolds, and there was reported tension between them during filming… or so it seemed. However, speaking to Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic Con 2024, Snipes disclosed that his feud with Reynolds was actually the longest role he had ever played. Snipes jokingly remarked: “My beef with Reynolds turned out to be my longest acting gig I’ve ever undertaken.”
The conversation began when Ryan Reynolds sent me a message. His text read, “I’d like to have a chat with you.” At first, I thought, ‘I don’t care for this fellow.’ But it was just a joke between us, something we’ve been doing for over two decades. In reality, we’ve always had a liking for each other throughout these years.
At San Diego Comic-Con’s Deadpool & Wolverine panel, Snipes unexpectedly attended a screening and was astounded by the incredible response to the movie. During the subsequent interview, it was shared that his presence sparked the loudest cheer from the audience. Laughing, Snipes quipped:
“That’s pretty cool to hear. Does it translate into money?”
Wesley Snipes Hasn’t Spoken to Mahershala Ali About Blade
As a dedicated gamer and fan of the Blade franchise, I’ve heard some voices in the community expressing skepticism about the upcoming reboot, with some arguing that there can only be one Blade – as portrayed by Wesley Snipes. However, I’m excited to share that this reboot is indeed happening, and Mahershala Ali will be stepping into the Daywalker’s leather in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Although Snipes and Ali hadn’t exchanged words before, in 2019, Snipes issued a statement wishing Ali good luck on getting the role. In his interview with EW, Snipes brought up his statement and supported Ali’s participation despite the project’s numerous setbacks. Snipes expressed:
“I cheered him on loudly, assuring him that he has all my well-wishes and backing. I made it a point to emphasize that the difficulties they’re experiencing with the project shouldn’t reflect negatively on him. It’s not his fault; the Blade project requires a unique blend of skills, and there are numerous factors at play. You need that secret sauce to pull off the Blade role, buddy. All the best! You’re my guy!”
right now, Deadpool and Wolverine are playing in cinemas globally; meanwhile, the new Blade movie is set to premiere in theaters on November 7, 2025.
