To switch things up a bit: Lastly, here’s some Blake Lively news unrelated to lawsuits, Justin Baldoni, or “It Ends With Us”. Amazon Prime Video has remembered that Lively is an actress and they have a new movie to promote. The follow-up to the 2018 black comedy mystery thriller, “A Simple Favor”, titled “Another Simple Favor“, moves the storyline to Capri, Italy. In the first trailer, it appears that Lively’s character, Emily Nelson, isn’t finished with Anna Kendrick’s Stephanie Smothers just yet.
The first trailer reintroduces us to the universe of “A Simple Favor,” starting with Stephanie (Kendrick) meeting the enigmatic Emily Nelson (Lively), followed by scenes suggesting the primary plot: Emily’s wedding to an Italian entrepreneur on Capri. In contrast to their past, Stephanie receives an invitation to this wedding, hinting that Emily may need more from her former friend and adversary. Lively questions in the trailer, “Are you here for revenge because I stole your life and took my child away? Do you think I want you to pay?” The trailer implies there could be a hidden motive behind Stephanie’s invitation, and a murder occurs amidst the lavish setting, complete with martinis.
‘Another Simple Favor’s Cast Features New and Returning Faces
As a devoted cinema enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that in the intriguing narrative of Another Simple Favor, we once again encounter Henry Golding as Sean Townsend, Andrew Rannells as Darren, Bashir Salahuddin as Detective Summerville, and the offspring of Emily and Stephanie – Joshua Satine and Ian Ho. To add to this enticing mix, a host of new faces grace our screens, including Allison Janney, Elizabeth Perkins, Michele Monroe, Kelly McCormack, Elena Sofia Ricci, Alex Newell, Taylor Ortega, Lorenzo de Moor, and Aparna Nancherla. Notably, Paul Feig is back at the helm for this fresh adventure, with Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis penning the captivating screenplay.
The movie titled “A Simple Favor” is adapted from the 2017 novel of the same name by Darcey Bell. It centers around an enthusiastic vlogger named Stephanie, who unexpectedly becomes friends with the sophisticated Emily Nelson. Despite their apparent bond, when Emily mysteriously vanishes, Stephanie discovers that she didn’t truly understand her newfound best friend.
Initially, A Simple Favor might have seemed like a typical Gone Girl remake, but it surprisingly flipped the thriller concept on its head and combined it with a cleverly humorous black comedy that left both critics and audiences in awe upon release. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 84% approval rating, praising it as “Twisty, twisted, and above all simply fun,” adding that it “casts a stylish mommy noir spell strengthened by potent performances from Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively.” With a budget of just $20 million, the film managed to earn $53.5 million domestically and $97.6 million globally.
I can’t wrap my head around why a sequel of the blockbuster movie “A Simple Favor” is premiering on Amazon Prime Video instead of hitting theaters. Although I understand some reasoning behind it, it still seems like an unconventional choice given that mid-budget films are often considered risky at the box office. However, since Amazon has chosen to debut the film at the South by Southwest Festival on March 7, it’s clear they have confidence in the project. The timing of this announcement comes after some turmoil surrounding Lively, and I wonder if her legal issues could impact the movie or even boost its popularity. We’ll see how it plays out.
Another Simple Favor hits Amazon Prime Video on May 1.
