Behind some of today’s most popular video game series like Warcraft and Overwatch stands Blizzard Entertainment. If all its fans gathered for a single event, it would be as crowded as BlizzCon.
Due to issues since 2020, every gaming event has struggled with initial launches. It appears that Blizzard may postpone the event for a year, thus not holding one in 2025.
BlizzCon Announced for 2026
According to the recent declaration, BlizzCon is set to make its comeback in the year 2026. More precisely, it will take place on September 12-13, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Don’t forget to mark your calendars!
In a statement on BlizzCon.com, the event organizers wrote:
Our goal is to significantly enhance this well-known festivity and offer an extraordinary encounter for everyone involved. We’re designing this occasion in much the same way we craft our games: with a strong dedication to our participants, acknowledging your ties to our worlds, and celebrating the power of friendships forged through mutual exploration.
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share that Blizzard is promising a nostalgic trip down memory lane with this year’s event! They’re bringing back the essence of our favorite past events, including in-depth game-specific panels, the lively Darkmoon Faire, and even hands-on gaming sessions. Plus, there will be competitions to test our skills and an official opening ceremony to kick things off in style. Can’t wait to join the festivities!
BlizzCon Through the Years

Since its debut in 2005, BlizzCon has consistently held annual events, except for a few years such as 2006 and 2012 when the event was canceled.
As a dedicated gamer in 2020, just like many other events, BlizzCon got scrapped due to the pandemic situation. Blizzard was giving it their best shot, trying to create an online event called BlizzConline instead. But unfortunately, they had to pull the plug in 2022 when a massive storm blew up about the company’s culture, with allegations of sexual harassment and discrimination surfacing.
Before 2026, the last in-person BlizzCon took place in Anaheim in 2023.
Legends Gather Together

It’s uncertain what plans Blizzard has for BlizzCon next year, but they possess a wealth of highly profitable intellectual properties across franchises such as Warcraft, Diablo, and Overwatch.
It’s worth noting that Overwatch 2 has been generating a lot of buzz lately following the release of NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals, often referred to as the ‘Overwatch Killer’. However, it seems the developers have been putting in extra effort this year, playing catch-up. Notably, there are new characters on the horizon, but also substantial gameplay adjustments that fans have eagerly anticipated since Overwatch 2 was first announced.
The progress on the PvE remains unknown for now, but it’s possible we might see a demonstration within the next year or so from Blizzard. Given that the idea was already in the works even before Overwatch 2 was released, it’s been under development for quite some time.
Following several challenging years with negative publicity, Blizzard could greatly benefit from an overhaul in their public image. Perhaps BlizzCon 2026 will serve as the ideal platform for this transformation. While it might be ambitious to anticipate a new intellectual property reveal, there’s certainly potential for more expansions and downloadable content in current games being developed by them.
At the upcoming event, we’re anticipating some significant unveilings. Fingers crossed that Blizzard has more surprises in store for us in 2025, ensuring that fans will consistently have something exciting to look forward to.
BlizzCon launches next year on Sept. 12–13, 2026.
