As a gamer with decades of gaming under my belt and countless hours spent traversing digital landscapes, I must say that Bloober Team‘s latest move is nothing short of exhilarating! Having played through history-making games like History: Egypt – Engineering an Empire and the chilling Layers of Fear, I can attest to their growth as a developer.
Story Highlights
- Bloober Team, The Medium and Observer developer, has now struck gold with the arrival of Silent Hill 2.
- The developer is not satisfied with the type of games it’s made in the past and wants to turn it up a notch.
- Bloober focuses on making a name based on original IPs, even though its work on Silent Hill is exemplary.
For some time now, Bloober has been active in the gaming industry, starting with History: Egypt – Engineering an Empire, which was first released in 2010. Over the years, they’ve produced several notable games like Layers of Fear and Observer. However, despite these achievements, Bloober acknowledges that it hasn’t yet fully tapped into its complete potential.
In an interview with GameSpot, producer Jacek Zieba acknowledged that Bloober Team has produced some less-than-stellar games in the past. However, he emphasized that after the success of Silent Hill 2, they are now striving for redemption, and with their latest project, Cronos: The New Dawn, they aim to prove their worth.
We aim to establish ourselves as a company specializing in horror productions. We believe we’ve discovered our unique market segment and are eager to grow within it. The process of development might be intricate, yet it tends to occur naturally, much like how Layers of Fear evolved from earlier projects in the studio – “We’ve created some subpar games in the past, but now we can progress.
According to studio director Wojciech Piejko, “Our team is passionate about horror.” Given this, it’s challenging for us to venture into other genres, and we have no desire to do so.
As a gamer, I can’t help but admit that the triumph of Silent Hill 2 is undeniable. However, there’s one persistent criticism about Bloober that lingers, and let’s face it, words carry weight. The fact remains that despite the success, trust in the developer isn’t universally won yet. This is because the Silent Hill 2 project was built upon an existing design, and creating a completely original IP from scratch falls under a separate evaluation category within the company.
As a dedicated follower, I’m eager to see how Bloober intends to solidify its reputation and demonstrate its prowess as a reliable developer capable of handling large-scale projects, with Cronos serving as their showcase. Undeniably, part of this assurance has been established through the remarkable quality of the remake they’ve delivered.
Bloober Has Struck Gold With Silent Hill 2, With Their Confidence Revived
The survival horror game, comparable to the Resident Evil remakes, sold over a million copies within only one month of release. Interestingly, the original Silent Hill 2 from 2001 has reached a total of 1 million in sales – an impressive achievement indeed!
The Silent Hill 2 remake debuted on October 8, 2024, on PlayStation 5 and PC platforms. If the chance arises, Bloober Team has indicated their readiness to tackle another Silent Hill title in a remake.
