Blue Bloods’ EP Teased Special Guests For The Series Finale’s Reagan Family Dinner, And I Have A Few Guesses About Who’s Joining The Meal

As a long-time viewer of Blue Bloods, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia as the series finale approaches. The Reagan family dinners have always been my favorite part of each episode, and knowing that this last one will be the final one is bittersweet.

Blue Bloods is one of many shows ending in 2024, and with the series finale airing in less than a week on the 2024 TV schedule, I can’t stop thinking about how the procedural will wrap up. What is known is that the fan-favorite Reagan family dinner will likely be as emotional as ever since it will be the final one. Now, we also know it’ll be a full table, because showrunner and executive producer Kevin Wade revealed there will be some special guests — and I have a few guesses about who he’s referring to.

What Kevin Wade Said About Blue Bloods Final Family Dinner

Kevin Wade shared his thoughts on the series finale with TV Insider, discussing details such as the final family dinner. The Reagan family dinners, which are often the most cherished moments in each episode, have become a distinctive feature of the series. Therefore, it’s fitting that the last meal depicted will be a significant one, with additional places set, according to the showrunner.

Among our group, there are several individuals who occasionally join us, one of whom has been with us for quite some time in the past and present. I must keep things general for now. There are family members we haven’t interacted with extensively lately who will be attending. [Laughs] Due to the increased number of participants, our gathering will be larger than typical. [Giggles] The art department even had to construct an additional leaf for the table!

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve got to admit, Wade didn’t exactly spill the beans about who’s joining us for the grand finale dinner, but hey, it’s the series ender! That means they’ll likely pull out all the stops and invite as many familiar faces as possible. With so many characters that have dined with the Reagans throughout the years, there are a plethora of possibilities for who might drop by one last time. I’ve got my own theories, but we’ll just have to wait and see!

Who Will Join The Reagans At Dinner?

In terms of additional diners for our meal, there are two likely candidates: Erin’s daughter, Nicky (played by Sami Gayle), and Danny’s oldest child, Jack (portrayed by Tony Terraciano). Both have been attending university and often visit from time to time.

Another possible choice is Joe Hill (Will Hochman), who is believed to be a distant relative of Ronald Reagan. Despite the familial connection, Joe doesn’t always find himself in sync with uncles Danny and Jamie, leading to occasional disagreements when they need to work together. Naming something after Joe Reagan one more time could serve as another heartfelt tribute to his memory.

Peter Hermann’s character Jack Boyle and Marisa Ramirez’s character Maria Baez could also be viable options, especially considering the possibility of a long-awaited romance between Danny and Maria. Furthermore, Erin’s former spouse has attended dinner with the Reagans this season, so it would be pleasant to have him back at the table if Nicky is involved in future events.

Attending the Reagan family dinner is quite an exclusive affair, with only a select few invited. This makes it simple to predict who might be present. However, the writers might surprise us by inviting an unexpected guest. Although we’re unsure of the exact attendees, we do know that this dinner will be deeply emotional and healing. Therefore, viewers are encouraged to watch the series finale of Blue Bloods on Friday, December 13 at 10 p.m. ET on CBS.
