As a long-time horror movie enthusiast who grew up watching these spine-tingling masterpieces under the covers with a flashlight, I am absolutely thrilled about this year’s BlumFest lineup! The return of the original found footage feature that started it all, “Paranormal Activity,” is just the beginning of an entire month dedicated to everything Blumhouse.
This year, BlumFest has announced their schedule for Halloween, starting with a special one-time re-release of the 2009 found footage film “Paranormal Activity”.
Oren Pel’s ‘Paranormal Activity’ is set to launch the film festival on September 25th in 150 AMC cinemas across 54 cities. Each Wednesday, a new Blumhouse movie will be shown, with screenings at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m., adjusted to local time. The event also offers free poster giveaways and previews of upcoming projects.
On October 2nd, “Lights Out” will be released. This project marked a significant step for director David F. Sandberg, who co-wrote the film with Eric Heisserer. Contrary to popular belief, this feature was not distributed by Blumhouse, but rather originated from Atomic Monster, a production company run by James Wan, which recently merged with Blumhouse.
One week after October 9th, we have the sequel to “Insidious: Chapter 2” arriving. This time, the creative duo from the “Saw” series, Wan and Leigh Whannell, reunite. While Wan takes on directing duties, they both worked together on the script.
The time-loop movie “Happy Death Day,” written by Scott Lobdell and directed by Christopher Landon, is set to premiere on October 16th.
On October 23rd, “The Black Phone” – a film with a forthcoming sequel directed by Scott Derrickson – will be making its way to cinemas. The screenplay for this chilling tale, inspired by an original short story penned by Joe Hill, was written by Derrickson and his frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill.
2023 saw the conclusion of the popular video game sensation, “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” a production helmed by director Emma Tammi. She collaborated on the script with Scott Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.
For the entire month, we’re penning a heartfelt tribute to Halloween and our loyal fans. We’re thankful for our collaborators at AMC who are sharing the excitement with us during BlumFest, our yearly October event dedicated to all things Blumhouse. It’s hard to believe that we’re celebrating the 15th anniversary of Paranormal Activity, as it seems like we’re only just beginning. This statement was made by Jason Blum, the founder and CEO of Blumhouse.
