Blumhouse’s ‘Speak No Evil’ Starring James McAvoy Sets Streaming Release Date

As a movie critic with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that “Speak No Evil” has left me utterly spellbound. Having seen countless horror films during my tenure, I can confidently assert that James McAvoy’s performance in this chilling tale is nothing short of extraordinary.

As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I must confess that when some folks raised eyebrows over a fresh American remake of a mere two-year-old Danish horror gem, “Speak No Evil,” I was among them. However, boy, was I proven wrong! This year, it stormed the box office, raking in an impressive $76 million. Produced by the legendary horror powerhouse Blumhouse and starring the talented James McAvoy, this film has become their highest-grossing movie of 2024 – a title that doesn’t exactly shout triumph when you consider the likes of “Night Swim,” “Imaginary,” and “AfrAId” were its contenders. Yet, if you’ve somehow missed it in cinemas and haven’t caught it on VOD, the streaming date for “Speak No Evil” has just been unveiled!

By the specified date on Dec 6th, the highly anticipated horror movie will be available on Peacock. This means you don’t have much time left to catch what is widely regarded as one of McAvoy’s finest performances in recent years. In the film titled “Speak No Evil“, McAvoy portrays Paddy, accompanied by his wife Ciara (Aisling Franciosi). The narrative unfolds when the Dalton family – Louise (Mackenzie Davis), Ben (Scoot McNairy), and Agnes (Alix West Lefler) – are invited to a secluded farmhouse in Devon, England. However, things aren’t as they appear, as it becomes evident that Paddy and Ciara have sinister intentions towards the Daltons, aiming to make their weekend a living nightmare.

According to the 2022 movie “Speak No Evil,” directed by Christian Tafdrup, this film has an impressive 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and viewers. They universally agreed on their assessment of the film, although there was some criticism about the alteration in its ending. Unlike the original Danish version which ended with a more grim conclusion to the chaos, the American adaptation chose the conventional “happily ever after,” a choice that the director has mentioned in the past is something Americans tend to prefer.

Speak No Evil Is James McAvoy’s Best Performance Since Split

Since 2016’s “Split,” McAvoy has been involved in several films, but none have gripped our interest quite like “Speak No Evil.” Much like his character in M. Night Shyamalan’s film, he displays a remarkable ability to transform from a seemingly relaxed individual into an alarming psychopath, demonstrating the versatility of his acting skills. Interestingly, McAvoy is paired with Franciosi, who delivers a riveting performance that matches McAvoy’s. Her roles in “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” and “Stopmotion” from last year served as a precursor to her captivating portrayal in this film.

The pair will join forces again for the upcoming British thriller, “Turn Up the Sun!”, currently in post-production without a confirmed release date yet. Afterward, Franciosi is set to appear in the comedy titled “Twinless”, while McAvoy will delve back into the thriller genre with “Control”. In this movie, he stars as a man who has a brain implant that gives him cryptic commands.

Speaking as a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming releases from Blumhouse! Kicking things off is “Wolf Man,” hitting cinemas nationwide on January 17th. After that, get ready for some exciting sequels like “M3GAN 2.0,” “The Black Phone 2,” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.” In the meantime, don’t forget to catch “Speak No Evil” on Peacock from Universal Pictures starting December 6th!
