Boston Rob Mariano Declined ‘Survivor 50’ to Give Other Alumni “Another Chance”

Contrary to fan expectations, Boston Rob Mariano declined the opportunity to be part of Survivor 50.

Previously a five-time contestant on the cherished CBS show, “The Traitors,” it was surprising to see his name absent from the roster of participants announced for the milestone 50th season this week. However, Mariano disclosed that Jeff Probst had reached out and extended an invitation for him to return, but he chose not to accept the offer himself.

@survivorcbs and @jeffprobst contacted me earlier, asking… I felt as though I’ve played this game so many times now, and I am completely content with my Survivor experience,” he posted on Instagram yesterday. “I wanted the opportunity to go to someone else who truly deserves another chance at the game!” (Informal)

“@survivorcbs and @jeffprobst got in touch with me first, asking… I felt like I’ve been through this journey so many times before, and I am completely satisfied with my Survivor adventure,” he wrote on Instagram Friday. “I wanted the chance to let someone else have a go, who truly deserves another shot!” (Formal)

Mariano shared a compilation of his photos expressing apparent disappointment upon learning that Boston Rob won’t feature in the cast of ‘Survivor 50’. The caption read, “Feeling after discovering Boston Rob won’t be part of the Survivor 50 lineup.” He appreciated the outreach from fans through direct messages when he wasn’t included among the upcoming contestants, who are all previous Survivor players.

Titled “Survivor 50: In the Control of Fans,” this milestone season is expected to deviate significantly from previous ones, as crucial aspects of the show’s structure were actually decided by its audience. Fans have been asked to vote on various aspects of the format during season 48, such as whether or not there will be idols in the game, if contestants will receive rice, and even if a live reunion will be held in Los Angeles.

In contrast to allowing viewers to choose who they’d like to see on the show, the cast for the 50th season of Survivor includes returning players such as Mike White, the creator of The White Lotus, Cirie Fields, the winner of The Traitors season one and a four-time Survivor participant, Ozzy Lusth from season 13, Benjamin “Coach” Wade from season 18, and Aubry Bracco from season 32.

Mariano expressed that ‘Survivor’ has had a profound impact on him and will continue to shape his identity. He remains deeply appreciative, feeling confident that better days are ahead,” Mariano summarized.

Outside of the realm of “Survivor,” Mariano has recently participated in another reality TV series, “The Traitors.” In an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter,” he admitted that his reputation as a legendary figure from CBS’s show made him a prominent target, resulting in his expulsion during episode seven.
