As someone who’s been riding the Apex Legends rollercoaster since its launch, I can attest to the game’s ups and downs. The past few seasons have felt like a long, arduous trek through the Outlands, but Season 22 has been a breath of fresh air.
For an extended period, Apex Legends has been experiencing a steep decline. Complex loot systems, outdated game strategies, and characters lacking excitement, coupled with numerous glitches and cheats, had driven the battle royale game to its lowest point in three years. However, that was before Season 22.
It seems that the Battle Royale genre might be losing its appeal (as Fortnite has moved away from it and Warzone doesn’t seem to be thriving), and this could be a challenge for Apex Legends since it hails from the same genre. However, Respawn Entertainment finds itself in a somewhat divisive situation due to internal issues within Apex Legends.
Instead, Season 22 seemed to deliver with a fresh map and game modes, hinting strongly that Battle Royale might just be the revitalizing change Apex Legends required to regain its momentum.
Apex Legends’ new Bot Royale is injecting life into a tired BR
You know what, I’m gonna say it- I like Bot Royale.

Over the past five years of Apex Legends’ thrilling journey, I find myself consistently outmatched by opponents who seem to have honed their skills more than ever before. This upward learning curve in live-service shooter games is not unfamiliar, but it can certainly dampen the spirit of fresh and returning players as they dive back into the fray.
Here, Bot Royale becomes useful as it offers players an opportunity to master the game, especially after adjustments to reduce aim assistance.
As a seasoned gamer with years of battle royale experience under my belt, I recently dived into the pulsating world of ‘Bot Royale’. Last night, I took the plunge and gave it a spin, and boy was it exhilarating! The game was a refreshing change from the try-hard sweatfests I’ve been in before. It was just me, my wits, and an arsenal of bots that were no pushovers.
Given that the post garnered over 1,000 upvotes, another player concurred, remarking, “Apex really needs this: a mode that helps players improve without causing frustration.“
Apex Legends player count bounces back in Season 22
Following some anxious months, there’s a noticeable shift towards optimism as the number of peak players seems to be on an upward trend. Over the past 30 days, this figure has risen by approximately 20%, surpassing the 300,000 player mark again (on Steam).
Although it’s not as high as the over 400,000 players Apex Legends had at this time last year, it’s still a positive trend. The introduction of the District map, along with new content, is likely to boost player numbers even further. It seems that Respawn Entertainment’s strategy of releasing fresh content is key to their success.
