As a dedicated Saturday Night Live (SNL) fan who has been following the show since its early days, I must say that Bowen Yang‘s revelation about a particularly challenging host has piqued my curiosity. Being an SNL enthusiast spanning over four decades, I have seen my fair share of hosts with strong opinions and egos to match. However, hearing about a host who managed to make multiple cast members cry before the table read is a new low, even for this iconic sketch comedy show.
On “Saturday Night Live” (SNL), Bowen Yang spoke candidly about a challenging past host during an episode of Matt Rogers and Andy Cohen’s show “Truth or Kink” on “Watch What Happens Live!”. Yang hinted that at least one SNL host, who joined the show since 2018, caused friction among the cast members.
On Wednesday, the individual serving as the host or this person, as you might say, caused several cast members to weep prior to the table read. He did so due to his dislike for the proposed ideas.
Afterward, he described the incident as extremely unpleasant. However, from that point forward, he remained silent about the details. Naturally, as a respectable individual, he didn’t reveal the identities of those involved.
Who Could the Mystery Host Have Been?
In 2018, Yang began working as a writer for Saturday Night Live (SNL). He continued in this role throughout Season 44. During Season 45, he transitioned from being just a writer to joining the cast. However, since many male hosts have appeared on SNL since then, it’s unclear who Yang might be referring to in his recent comments.
From Season 45 to 46, I was part of a captivated audience for Saturday Night Live, witnessing an impressive roster of star hosts, including Woody Harrelson, David Harbour, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, John Krasinski, Dan Levy, and even Elon Musk. These individuals have certainly earned the privilege to evaluate comedy content, though it’s up for debate whether Musk should be included in that group. However, what truly sets them apart is their willingness to express an unpopular opinion from time to time – a trait that Musk undeniably possesses and contributes to the collective discourse.
On numerous occasions, Saturday Night Live (SNL) has found itself in the spotlight due to its selection of guest stars or questionable humor that some parts of the internet deem offensive. While a single guest host causing someone to shed tears might not be a major concern for those associated with SNL, the same can likely be said about the host involved in the incident.
As a longtime fan of Saturday Night Live (SNL), I am truly thrilled to witness this iconic show embarking on its historic Season 50. The upcoming biographical movie titled Saturday Night adds another layer of excitement, promising an all-star cast revisiting the moments leading up to the first episode aired back in 1975. Having grown up watching SNL and being inspired by its comedic genius, I can’t wait to see how the film portrays this legendary beginning. It’s going to be quite an emotional journey for me, reminiscing on all the laughter, tears, and memories shared over the years with my fellow fans.
