Box Office: ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Stays No. 1 as ‘Speak No Evil’ Impresses and ‘Killer’s Game’ Bombs

As a seasoned gamer who has seen more movies than I’ve racked up high scores in my favorite arcade games, I must say, this weekend at the box office is looking quite promising!

As a gamer, I can’t help but feel the chills running down my spine as Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice continues to rule the box office in its second weekend! With an estimated $52 million or more, this spooky spectacle is charging straight towards a massive $200 million domestically. It’s like being stuck in a never-ending haunted house ride that I can’t get enough of!

The pic, playing in 4,575 theaters domestically, could fall as little as 51 percent.

The latest horror-thriller from Blumhouse and Universal, titled “Speak No Evil“, is proving to be beneficial for the box office. Debuting at the second spot, the film is projected to launch with an impressive $12.3 million across 3,375 screens, despite having a budget of only $15 million (before marketing costs). The story revolves around an American family who visit a luxurious British estate, where they uncover their host, played by James McAvoy, harbors a dark and menacing persona. Critics are praising McAvoy’s acting performance in the movie.

Speak No Evil has earned an impressive 85% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a B+ grade from the audience at CinemaScore.

In its eighth weekend, Deadpool and Wolverine are maintaining their third position, earning approximately $5.4 million. The newly released documentary titled “Am I Racist?” is close behind, following in fourth place.

With conservative commentator Matt Walsh in the spotlight, Am I Racist? is projected to make a strong opening of around $4.5 million to $5 million across 1,517 theaters, marking the highest debut for a documentary in 2024 and one of the most successful nationwide launches of the past decade.

The movie, titled “Social Experiment,” directed by Justin Folk, is produced by Daily Wire and Digital Astronaut. This marks the company’s first theatrical release of an in-house production, with distribution handled by SDG Releasing. In this film, Walsh takes on the character of a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) trainee. He attends anti-racism workshops, crashes private intellectual gatherings, and engages in discussions with both experts and ordinary citizens about racism. Among these interviewees is Robin DiAngelo, author of the book “White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism.

The question “Am I Racist?” is generating significant sales in traditional conservative regions such as the Southern, Midwestern, and Mountain states.

The Ronald Reagan biographical film “Reagan,” featuring Dennis Quaid, is expected to rank at the fifth position in its third weekender, earning approximately $3 million or more from 2,450 movie theaters, leading to a projected domestic accumulation of around $23 million by Sunday’s end.

Over the weekend, Lionsgate’s latest action film titled “The Killer’s Game“, featuring Dave Bautista as a seasoned assassin who requests his own death following a false terminal diagnosis, suffered a significant setback. This R-rated production might only manage to gross between $2.6 million and $3 million at the box office due to unfavorable critic reviews and a B+ rating from viewers in terms of audience satisfaction.

In seven cinemas located in New York, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas, the highly praised Sundance Film Festival pick titled “My Old Ass” is debuting with encouraging ticket sales. This film, distributed by Amazon and MGM, follows a coming-of-age story where an 18-year-old encounters her older self. Aubrey Plaza and newcomer Maisy Stella take on the main roles in writer-director Megan Park’s second production.

Weekend numbers will be updated Sunday.
