With a multicultural spectatorship energizing them, the film “Sinners” has amassed an additional $23 million since Monday, bringing its domestic total to $71.5 million by Wednesday. The movie earned $7.8 million on Monday, climbed to $8.6 million on Tuesday with discounted tickets, and made another $7.1 million on Wednesday. These figures are substantial for an R-rated genre film, underscoring the film’s strong word-of-mouth impact.
Over the upcoming weekend, “Sinners” and “The Accountant 2,” distributed by Amazon MGM, will square off at the box office. These R-rated movies are projected to earn between $20 million and $25 million, and they’ll be vying primarily for a male audience.
Back in 2016, I got my hands on “The Accountant” – a flick Warner Bros. put out – which raked in an impressive $24.7 million at the box office, eventually grossing a staggering $155.5 million worldwide. According to Amazon MGM, it even took home the title of the most-rented digital film of 2017!
In their reunion, “The Accountant 2” is garnering a new 75% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, in contrast to the initial movie’s poor 53% score.
The actor, along with Matt Damon, their joint company Artists Equity, Lynette Howell Taylor’s 51 Entertainment, and Mark Williams’ Zero Gravity Management, collectively produced the sequel. This film had its world debut at SXSW a month ago, claiming the Audience Award for the Headliners section.
In “The Accountant 2,” Jon Bernthal, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, and J.K. Simmons join forces in the film. The plot revolves around Ben Affleck’s character being compelled to intervene when an old friend is murdered. Alongside his estranged brother and a U.S. Treasury agent, he delves into the mystery. As they dig deeper, they uncover a lethal conspiracy that puts them squarely in the crosshairs of a merciless network of assassins who will go to extreme lengths to protect their hidden secrets.
Accountant 2 is hosting Thursday previews before opening officially on Friday.
