As a lifelong fan who’s been following these two Hollywood titans since their days on Alias and Friends respectively, I can confidently say that seeing Brad Pitt and George Clooney together again on the big screen was like reuniting with old friends. The Venice Film Festival has never been this electric! The world premiere of Wolfs, directed by Jon Watts, was a night to remember, with the pair receiving a well-deserved five-minute standing ovation that had me dancing along to Sade’s Smooth Operator.
The Lido is in a frenzy for Wolfs.
Under the radiant stardom of its seasoned A-listers, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, Jon Watts’ Apple and Sony film had an impressive global debut at the Venice Film Festival on Sunday night at Lido. As expected, a frenzy of fans and journalists camping out at Palazzo del Cinema went into overdrive when the duo arrived before the screening. After the last scenes unfolded and credits finished rolling, Wolfs was met with an almost five-minute standing ovation. Pitt and Clooney appeared to bask in the limelight, with Pitt crooning to Sade’s tunes and Clooney offering a heartfelt “Grazie” to conclude the celebration.
In the movie titled “Wolfs,” penned by Watts, Brad Pitt and George Clooney play characters who inadvertently take on the same task. This production is a joint effort between Clooney’s Smokehouse and Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. The film also features Amy Ryan, Austin Abrams, Poorna Jagannathan, Richard Kind, and Zlatko Burić. Apart from Clooney, Pitt, and Watts, Grant Heslov, Dede Gardner, and Jeremy Kleiner were also involved in production. Michael Beugg served as an executive producer for the project.
Just last month, it was confirmed that a Wolfs sequel is in the works at Apple. The movie is also getting a limited theatrical release via Sony on Sept. 20, followed by a global launch on Apple TV+ on Sept. 27.
The appearance from two of Hollywood’s most beloved movie stars in Venice underscored a breakout theme at this year’s Venice Film Festival: Movie stars are back! Leading the pack are Pitt and Clooney. Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix will sing and slither their way back to Venice as DC villains in Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux. Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore return to the canals for The Room Next Door, Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut.
1. Daniel Craig leads the cast of Luca Guadagnino’s film “Queer,” along with Lesley Manville and Drew Starkey. Nicole Kidman will star in “Babygirl” alongside Harris Dickinson and Antonio Banderas, directed by Halina Reijn. Cate Blanchett appears in Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple TV+ series “Disclaimer,” sharing the screen with Kevin Kline and Sacha Baron Cohen.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Tim Burton’s return to the underworld with a stacked cast, opened the festival with Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Willem Dafoe, Catherine O’Hara and Italian legend Monica Bellucci. A few more: Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist brings Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Joe Alwyn; Justin Kurzel’s The Order delivered Nicholas Hoult, Jude Law and Tye Sheridan, and more.
At the Venice Film Festival 2021, Brad Pitt and George Clooney shared a heartfelt, approximately 5-minute long standing ovation for the movie “Wolves”. As the applause continued, Brad Pitt was seen dancing and crooning to Sade’s “Smooth Operator.” #Venezia81
