Brandon Sklenar spoke candidly about sporting the same pin as his “It Ends With Us” director, Justin Baldoni.
The actor who portrayed Blake Lively’s romantic interest in ‘It Ends With Us’ sparked online detectives into action when he arrived at the 2025 Vanity Fair Oscars party wearing a pink, floral brooch that seemed identical to the one Baldoni donned at the ‘It Ends With Us’ premiere in New York.
(In this version, I simplified the sentence structure and used more common phrasing, such as “sparked online detectives” instead of “had internet sleuths investigating”.)
In the midst of the continuing court case between Lively and Baldoni concerning events on the movie set and promotional activities, some people wondered if there was a hidden meaning in Sklenar’s decision to mimic Baldoni’s red carpet accessory at the film premiere.
But now Sklenar says there was no hidden meaning behind his sartorial selection.
To be truthful, no. If only I could,” Sklenar expressed to People, when questioned about any secret symbolism behind the pin, at the 2025 SXSW debut of his film The Drop. “It was purely coincidental. In the morning, I stumbled upon an article and thought, ‘Oh, shoot.’ I had no clue whatsoever. I had a notion that I wanted to don a floral brooch, and that shade happened to be my favorite. Incidentally, someone else had worn it before me.
Last week, I shared a snapshot of my outfit for the Vanity Fair party on Instagram, proudly proclaiming, “Here’s to the charm of the brooch!
The brand responsible for the brooch, known as the Anabela Chan Parrot Bloom Brooch, shared images showing that both Sklenar and Baldoni donned this identical accessory.
Earlier, The Hollywood Reporter contacted Sklenar’s representative and stylist for additional details regarding the appearance.
At the Vanity Fair gathering, Sklenar expressed his hope that the conversation would center around the movie and its portrayal of domestic violence, despite the ongoing legal battles between Lively and Baldoni.
In December, Lively alleged that Baldoni and others subjected her to sexual harassment on the set, followed by a damaging reputation attack.
Baldoni filed a lawsuit against Lively, her spouse Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, Leslie Sloane, counterclaiming acts of extortion, defamation, and contract-related issues.
Following the initial revelation of Lively’s allegations of sexual harassment, Sklenar encouraged his audience to consider her statement and publicly expressed his solidarity with Lively by tagging her with a heart symbol.
At the Vanity Fair bash, when THR questioned me about my plans to back Lively, I admitted, “This is a challenging predicament. All I can do is remind everyone of what the movie symbolizes – love. It’s a tribute to women everywhere and an effort to aid those going through tough phases in life.
Sklenar’s recent statements share a resemblance with comments he made in an earlier interview with THR, which coincided with his involvement in the television series 1923.
He expressed his immense pride in the movie, not only for what it represents but also because of its deeper meaning. This film holds a special place in his heart since someone very dear to him has faced a similar situation as Lily’s character for years. He’s been actively supporting this person through it all. So, it carries significant importance for him, and he’s gratified that it resonated with so many others too.
Regarding the potential continuation of the story from “It Ends With Us”, Sklenar shared, “I’d be thrilled to explore more about these characters should the opportunity arise.
Previously, Sklenar spoke up in support of the women involved in the movie following early whispers of tension between Lively and Baldoni following the release of It Ends With Us in August.
Colleen, along with the other actresses in the production team, symbolize hope, resilience, and women pursuing a superior life,” Sklenar stated in a lengthy post. “Criticizing the women who invest so much emotion into this movie because they passionately support its message seems contradictory and takes away from the film’s essence. In fact, it goes against the very purpose of the movie.
He stated in his post, which was posted prior to Lively bringing forth sexual harassment allegations, “Regardless of any alleged events occurring off-camera, they should not and should not have influenced our original intentions for making this movie. It’s disappointing to see the level of negativity being spread online.
By coincidence, Lively attended SXSW last weekend too, gracing the red carpet for the premiere of her film “Another Simple Favor” alongside Anna Kendrick.
