As a child of the ’90s and a dedicated horror enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming sequel to “I Know What You Did Last Summer“. This movie was my gateway into the terrifying world of slashers, and Brandy’s portrayal of Karla Wilson left an indelible mark on me.
The horror genre has been thriving for years now, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down. Some of the best horror movies have returned for new sequels, such as Scream and Halloween. The next property that’s developing another slasher is I Know What You Did Last Summer, with fans expecting Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to return to their roles. Brandy has confirmed she’d had some talks over the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, and as a hardcore fan I need them to book her ASAP.
The movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is expected to start filming in October, suggesting that the studio will soon need to finalize its cast. With director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson confirming that the sequel would be part of the original storyline, many fans, including myself, have been curious if this means Brandy could reprise her role as Karla Wilson. Following a conversation with Brandy, she’s shared that discussions about her return have taken place. In a recent chat with ET, when asked about her contact with Robinson and the team, she responded affirmatively.
They have. So we’ll see what happens.
Frankly, I’m quite excited! The movie “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” was the first horror film I ever watched as a kid, and it has always held a special spot in my heart. Brandy played the role of Julie with great charm, and her character Karla managed to survive The Fisherman’s attack. This made her stand out as an exceptional Black horror character from the ’90s who didn’t meet an untimely end. Given this, I would be thrilled if she were to reprise her role in the upcoming sequel.
In the very same interview, Brandy was queried about her desired outcome for her comeback as Karla. She replied candidly, expressing her thoughts as follows:
I haven’t contemplated on this just yet, but I believe she ought to return. It is my conviction that she will return for sure.
To put it simply, the I Know What You Did Last Summer series has produced fewer films compared to many other horror franchises, leaving much room for storytelling possibilities about the three remaining legacy characters. The question remains: did Karla and Julie maintain their friendship following their close brush with death, or did they grow apart over time? Time will unveil the answer, but I eagerly anticipate seeing these two strong female characters back on the big screen together again – a prospect that brings out my inner child’s excitement!
Absolutely, for the actors to appear in the upcoming IKWYDLS film, they must first formally agree to the contract. At this moment, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., and Brandy Norwood haven’t been officially confirmed yet. If we want the movie to start shooting in October, time is of the essence. Here’s hoping they get cast quickly!
The upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” remake is projected to hit cinemas on July 18, 2025. In the meantime, take a look at the 2025 film release schedule to help decide which other movies you’d like to catch next year.
