Brandyn Barbara Artis, Actress in ‘THX 1138’ and ‘The Doctor,’ Dies at 81

I’m heartbroken to share that the exceptional actress, Brandyn Barbara Artis, who graced our screens in films like George Lucas’ THX 1138 and Randa Haines’ The Doctor, has left us at the age of 81. This is truly a loss for the cinematic world.

Art fought bravely against breast cancer and passed away on March 31, at her residence in Los Angeles, as confirmed by her friend, Karen T. Bolt.

Artis’ resume showcased his involvement in various TV series, including Man From Atlantis, The White Shadow, Knots Landing, Dynasty, and General Hospital.

In the movie THX 1138 from 1971, she portrayed a holographic dancer, a role that shared screen with Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasence under George Lucas’ direction for his debut as a filmmaker. Additionally, she appeared as a nurse in The Doctor alongside William Hurt.

Back in 1971, she was the hologram dancer in THX 1138, where she worked with Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasence under George Lucas’ direction for his first feature film. Later on, she played a nurse in The Doctor, alongside William Hurt.

A retired US Air Force serviceman, Artis penned the one-woman autobiographical play titled “Sister, Girl“. This play was inspired by a diary she maintained throughout her battle with breast cancer. It has been staged not just within the US but also internationally.

Apart from that, she penned the 2011 romance novel titled “Running Barefoot in Paris”, and her unique style and character earned her victory in the Harper’s Bazaar/Estée Lauder “Fabulous at Every Age” competition, demonstrating both her fashion sense and spirit.

She is survived by her daughter, Tracy, and her grandchild, Miuccia.

In March 2005, Larry Bunker, a distinguished jazz percussionist known for his collaborations with The Bill Evans Trio and various artists including Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, and Diana Krall, passed away at the age of 76. His wife was by his side.
