Brian Baumgartner and Patton Oswalt Spill the Beans on Their Hilarious Suits LA Encounter!

Warning: SPOILERS for the Suits LA episode “He Knew” are ahead!

As a movie enthusiast, I’ve got to say that one unique aspect that sets “Suits LA” apart from its predecessor, geographically speaking, is its focus on lawyers who deal with big-time clients in the entertainment world. This setting offers a goldmine of chances for real actors to guest star as themselves on NBC, which can also be enjoyed with a Peacock subscription. The late John Amos made his last screen appearance in the “Suits LA” pilot, and tonight’s episode featured Brian Baumgartner from “The Office” and Patton Oswalt from “The Goldbergs” sharing the limelight. They both opened up to TopMob about their on-set camaraderie, creating an experience that was a stark contrast to the struggles of their fictional counterparts.

Prior to the broadcast of “Hew Knew” in 2025, I had individual conversations with both Baumgartner and Oswalt. In the fictional world of “Suits LA”, their characters were first brought together by Lex Scott Davis’ Erica Rollins, but interestingly, they had already met each other a few times in reality. As it turns out, Baumgartner, who portrayed Kevin Malone on “The Office” (a truly exceptional sitcom), shared with me that they had previously encountered one another on several occasions.

Previously, our paths crossed, but only briefly; we hadn’t spent an entire day together in 12 hours straight or anything like that on that particular occasion. I’ve always admired him greatly. It’s amusing because I shared with him, we were merely chatting… it was approximately three weeks ago. There was a stand-up comedian, a friend of mine, who was visiting where I reside at the time, and Patton was the headliner for the event. This was prior to any of this unfolding. If something hadn’t gone awry at the last minute preventing me from attending the show, it would have added another layer to our encounter. I am a big fan of his. I believe he’s exceptional. Our collaboration was enjoyable. The rapport we developed happened remarkably fast. He is certainly one of the best in his field.

In a surprising turn of events, LA’s Leading Drama Series took an unexpected turn for the character portrayed by Lex Scott Davis. However, in a recent interview, the actress revealed that she wasn’t taken aback by this plot development.

Stephen Amell’s daughter often jokes humorously about NSFW topics after helping him with his lines on LA set.”

This version maintains the original meaning and is written in natural, easy-to-read language. The phrase “after helping him with his Suits LA lines” has been replaced with a more general term, “on the LA set,” to make it clear that this refers to the television show “Suits.” The use of “often jokes humorously about NSFW topics” conveys the idea that the daughter makes humorous comments, but does so in an appropriate and age-appropriate manner given the context.

The gathering at Suits LA took place due to Brian Baumgartner’s ambition to depart from his comedic roles and strive towards winning an Oscar for dramatic performances. To accomplish this, he wanted advice from Tom Hanks, but unfortunately, that wasn’t feasible. Instead, Leah Power of Alice Lee managed to have Patton Oswalt visit, as he has a background in both comedy and drama.

Regrettably, the conversation between Baumgartner and Oswalt took a turn for the worse when the latter expressed doubt about Baumgartner’s ability to win an Academy Award. After exchanging several sharp comments (Oswalt compared Toby to being funnier than Kevin on The Office, while Baumgartner criticized Oswalt for voicing Remy in Ratatouille), Baumgartner stormed off, upset with Erica for not fulfilling his request. However, as a former cast member from the real-life Office told me, he had an excellent time collaborating with The King of Queens actor, who shared the same positive sentiments later on. In Oswalt’s words: “Working with him was a blast.

He lived up to the expectation of being entertaining, and I found great joy in our performance together. We portrayed exaggerated versions of ourselves on stage, and it was truly enjoyable for me, and I believe it was just as much fun for him too.

It turns out there’s no need for concern about Brian Baumgartner and Patton Oswalt feuding on Suits LA. Before their meeting, Erica Rollins encouraged Oswalt to antagonize Baumgartner to gauge his resolve in pursuing an Oscar. She did this because she recognized the feeling of being underestimated. As planned, the Kevin Malone actor remained steadfast in his pursuit, making Erica happy with her strategy. However, Baumgartner requested that she keep open the possibility of booking comedic roles if his dramatic acting doesn’t pan out.

Erica Rollins tricked Patton Oswalt into annoying Brian Baumgartner to test his determination for an Oscar. Luckily, it worked, and they’re not enemies on Suits LA. Baumgartner still wants comedic roles as a backup plan though.

The TV series “Suits” airs every Sunday at 9 pm Eastern Time on NBC. In the upcoming episode titled “Batman Returns,” Gabriel Macht, who plays Harvey Specter in Suits, will make his return for the first of three episodes he’s scheduled for. Additionally, it was recently announced that Rick Hoffman will reappear as Louis Litt later in this season. As for me, I’ll be cheering you on, Fictional Brian, and I hope your next encounter with Fictional Patton will involve a less intense conversation.
