Brian Cox Plays Mighty King in Anime Prequel ‘Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim’ Trailer

As a lifelong fan of both Succession and The Lord of the Rings series, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming anime prequel, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim! Brian Cox’s deep, commanding voice as Helm Hammerhand is a perfect fit for such an iconic character, and Gaia Wise brings a fierce and determined edge to her portrayal of Héra.

Actor Brian Cox from “Succession” lends his voice to Helm Hammerhand, the sword-bearing King of Rohan in the trailer for New Line Cinema’s anime prequel The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Meanwhile, Gaia Wise voices Héra, the leader of a resistance fighting against a deadly foe in this trailer, which was released on Thursday.

In a grandiose setting, 183 years prior to the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the King of Rohan finds himself in a desperate battle at the ancient fortress of Hornburg, following a sudden onslaught led by the vindictive Wulf, who lends his voice to Luke Pasqualino.

In this adaptation of the Tolkien universe, Hera is compelled to wage a valiant counter-offensive against an adversary determined to annihilate them completely. The first big screen heroine from J.R.R. Tolkien’s literature makes her debut in this tale. At one point in the trailer preview, the King of Rohan scoffs at his daughter, saying, “You know nothing about war.”

“In response, Héra declares, ‘I’m the swiftest rider here,’ as she brandishes her powerful sword from atop her steed, ready to defend her kingdom against its adversaries. The anime movie titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is set for global release on December 11th and will be available in domestic theaters through Warner Bros. Pictures distribution starting on December 13th.”

In this production, we have Miranda Otto, Lorraine Ashbourne, Yazdan Qafouri, Benjamin Wainwright, Laurence Ubong Williams, and Shaun Dooley lending their voices. The distinguished Philippa Boyens is the producer, while Peter Jackson serves as executive producer alongside Fran Walsh, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood, and Toby Emmerich.

The screenplay is by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
