As a seasoned gamer with a keen eye for detail and a deep appreciation for quality content, I must say that Nicola Coughlan‘s journey in Bridgerton has been nothing short of captivating. Her transformation from a young, curly-haired character to the mature and alluring Penelope Featherington is a testament to her versatility as an actress.
Nicola Coughlan confesses that one relative didn’t entirely approve of her passionate moments in the series, Bridgerton.
As a devoted admirer, I’m excited to share that the captivating actress who brings Penelope Featherington to life on our beloved Netflix series, has revealed some intriguing insights about portraying a more seasoned character in the show’s highly anticipated third season. She disclosed this during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
During filming, I found myself 35 years old and had never portrayed an adult character before. I remember thinking, ‘How do I pull this off?’ she shared. In the first two seasons, my appearance resembled Spongebob Squarepants quite a bit, with curly red hair, a yellow dress, and a rather tent-like silhouette.
Coughlan went on to say, “However, it felt strange taking up the role of the romantic lead because – the show is quite sensual. A great deal of sensual scenes occur within it, and then I understood that I would be required to perform those intimate scenes myself. So, I thought, ‘Alright.’
The historical romance series centers around eight members of the Bridgerton family, each seeking love and contentment within London’s upper class, with each season spotlighting a different sibling. In the third season of Bridgerton, the tale unfolds as a budding romance between Coughlan’s character and Luke Newton’s character, Colin Bridgerton, who were previously just friends.
The Derry Girls’ actress mentioned that when her mother discovered she would be filming multiple intimate scenes for season three, she didn’t express much joy about it.
The actress stated, according to the London Evening Standard, “My mother was so angry with me over those scenes – it seemed like she blamed me for them, so I didn’t accompany her to the screening.
Previously, Coughlan expressed his intention to have a hand in shaping the more private moments of the series, particularly the significant mirror scene inspired by the novel upon which the show is built.
In an interview with Stylist magazine in May, she mentioned a particular scene where she chose to be completely unclothed in front of the camera. She found it to be a bold statement against the ongoing discussions about her body, and it gave her an incredible sense of empowerment. In that moment, she felt stunning, and she hoped that when she’s 80, she would look back on this and remember how confident and attractive she looked.
