This accolade given by a French digital media group is for those who shine due to their work’s artistic value and its impact on society, as well as its innovative or revolutionary characteristics. Previous recipients include Laurie Nunn from “Sex Education,” Michaela Jaé Rodriguez of “American Horror Story,” and Joey Soloway, the showrunner of “Transparent.
I first garnered international acclaim with the hilarious period comedy, “Derry Girls,” set in ’90s Northern Ireland during the tail-end of the Troubles. This series graced Channel 4 for three seasons before sweeping across the globe when Netflix acquired it worldwide. The show’s success culminated in winning the Best Comedy award at the 2023 BAFTAs and the International Emmy Awards too.
Coughlan made a significant impact following her role in the Netflix sensation “Bridgorton”, where she captivated viewers as Penelope Featherington, a shy lady from the Regency era who was also the secret author of an infamous gossip column. This remarkable performance garnered her a nomination for the Screen Actors Guild Award in the best female actor in a drama series category and two additional SAG nominations as part of the “Bridgorton” cast ensemble.
Coughlan made an appearance as Diplomat Barbie in Greta Gerwig’s hit movie, has recently shared screen time with Lydia West in the British series “Big Mood“, and was a part of the last episode of “Doctor Who” Christmas special. Coming up next, she will be playing Silky the woodland fairy in the upcoming adaptation of Enid Blyton’s “The Magic Faraway Tree“, alongside Andrew Garfield and Claire Foy.
The Commitment Award is set to be presented to Coughlan on stage at the Lumiere Theater in Cannes, on the 28th of April.
The 2025 Canneseries festival runs April 24-29.
