As a die-hard Bridget Jones fan who’s been following her chaotic love life since the turn of the millennium, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon seeing the trailer for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”. The news about Mark Darcy’s demise hit me like a brick, but then again, isn’t that just Bridget’s luck?
Bridget’s back, and she’s still trying to figure things out.
In a new trailer for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,” Renee Zellweger’s character Bridget continues her quest for love, now grappling with the sad reality of Mark Darcy (played by Colin Firth) being deceased. Yes, that’s right, Darcy is gone and the trailer delivers this unfortunate news right away.
Regardless, Bridget’s journey continues with life presenting her not just one, but two potential romantic possibilities. The first is Mr. Wallaker (Chiwetel Ejiofor), an age-appropriate and attractive teacher at her children’s school. The second is Roxster (Leo Woodall), a youthful and somewhat unpredictable character who might be a warning sign.
The movie titled “Mad About the Boy” is the fourth installment in the series, following “Bridget Jones’s Diary” (2001), “Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason” (2004) and “Bridget Jones’s Baby “(2016). It features many familiar faces from the “Bridget Jones” film world, such as Hugh Grant reprising his role as Daniel Cleaver, Jim Broadbent as Bridget’s father, Gemma Jones as Bridget’s mother, Emma Thompson as Dr. Rawlings, Sarah Solemani as Miranda, Sally Phillips as Shazzer, James Callis as Tom and Shirley Henderson as Jude. Additionally, new cast members include Leila Farzad, Isla Fisher, Josette Simon and Nico Parker.
Mad About the Boy will head directly to streaming in the U.S. via Peacock on Feb. 13, 2025.
This feature is inspired by the book written by Helen Fielding, with the author herself penning the screenplay, along with Abi Morgan and Dan Mazer. The movie “Mad About the Boy” is helmed by director Michael Morris (known for shows like “Better Call Saul” and “13 Reasons Why”) and produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Jo Wallett. In addition to Fielding, Zellweger, Amelia Granger, and Sarah-Jane Wright serve as executive producers on the project.
