British Boxing Drama From Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson a Go at Starz

The newly independent Starz has placed its first series order after splitting off from Lionsgate.

A high-end cable and streaming platform has commissioned the drama series titled “Fightland”, which is based in the realm of British boxing and is overseen by executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr., known for their work on “Power” and “Genius: MLK/X”, will assume the roles of showrunners, writers, and executive producers. Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith are also credited as writers and executive producers on this project.

In simple terms, Starz officially severed ties with its previous parent company, Lionsgate, back in May. As a standalone entity now, the company is focusing on creating and producing intellectual properties that it owns. Furthermore, they plan to maintain their focus on programming targeted towards women and underrepresented groups in the entertainment industry.

Since 2022, the series titled “Fightland” has been under production at Starz. A few weeks prior to the recent formal series order on Thursday, they opened a writers’ room. The show revolves around a disgraced, previously imprisoned boxing champion who returns to London in search of vengeance against the crime family he suspects betrayed him, as outlined in the show’s synopsis. With heart-pounding action and inhabited by dangerous characters, this is an unprecedented world of money and power yet to be explored. Filming is set to begin in London during the fall.

In a statement, Jackson announced that his first globally produced show through G-Unit Film & Television is Fightland. He’s thrilled to infuse that worldwide vibe onto the screen. He expects this project to surpass all his previous endeavors, as the raw intensity of boxing will elevate it to new heights.

Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz, stated, “In a gritty setting within the British boxing underworld, Fightland offers an enticing blend of character development and thrill. This series embodies the raw, high-quality storytelling that Starz is recognized for, and we’re confident that each intense episode will leave viewers eagerly anticipating the next.

Jackson has been closely tied to Starz for quite some time, given his role as executive producer of the Power series, BMF, and the documentary series The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast, which recently secured a renewal for a second season just a few days ago.

The series is being produced by G-Unit Film & Television and Expanded Media. Jackson, along with Macedon, Smith, Fajemisin-Duncan, and Expanded Media’s Francis Hopkinson and Kate Leadbetter, will serve as executive producers.
