British Icon Jennifer Saunders Joins Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy in ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ Adaptation

As a seasoned gamer and a lover of all things fantastical, I can hardly contain my excitement for this upcoming film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s beloved “The Magic Faraway Tree.” The star-studded cast, featuring the likes of Jennifer Saunders, Andrew Garfield, and Laurence Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera, promises an enchanting cinematic experience that will surely transport us back to our childhood dreams.

British cultural figure Jennifer Saunders is set to be part of the high-profile ensemble in the cinematic interpretation of Enid Blyton’s cherished children’s tale, “The Enchanted Woodland Tree.”

Joining the already-confirmed cast members, Andrew Garfield, Claire Foy, Nicola Coughlan, and Jessica Gunning, are Hiran Abeysekera, known for his work in “The Life of Pi” and “The Father and the Assassin,” as well as Pippa Bennett-Warner, who has been seen in “Gangs of London,” “See How They Run,” and “Chloe.”

As I step onto the set, I’m thrilled to be part of “The Magic Faraway Tree,” a production brought to life by Neal Street Productions, Elysian Film Group, and Ashland Hill Media Finance. It’s an exciting day as we embark on this magical journey together!

The film, drawing inspiration from the beloved “Faraway Tree” book series for kids, focuses on Polly (Foy) and Tim Thompson (Garfield), along with their kids, Beth, Joe, and Fran. These characters are compelled to move to a secluded part of rural England. In this new location, they uncover a mystical tree and its peculiar inhabitants who are both magical and quirky, as suggested by the storyline.

Saunders, known for roles in “Absolutely Fabulous” and “Shrek 2,” has been chosen to play a stern grandmother character in the upcoming production. Abeysekera, who won the Laurence Olivier Award, will portray the Angry Pixie, one of the magical inhabitants of the forest, while Bennett-Warner takes on the role of Hannah, the assistant to the grandmother.

The roles of the Thompson kids will be taken by fresh talents, Delilah Bennett-Cardy (from ITV’s “Tom Jones” and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s “Macbeth”), Billie Gadsdon (who has appeared in “Cruella” and “One Day”), and Phoenix Laroche (known for “The Velveteen Rabbit” and “Trying”).

“With our cast already promising an exciting ride, renowned actors have now come on board,” shared producer Pippa Harris. “I’m confident they’ll infuse charm, curiosity, and warmth into their roles, making this journey even more enchanting, and we’re thrilled to welcome them aboard for this magical tale.”

Renowned British figures Sir Lenny Henry, Michael Palin, and Simon Russell Beale have also been added to the cast, taking on roles as a group of enigmatic sages hailing from the Land of All-Wisdom.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m excited to share that the upcoming movie is being directed by Ben Gregor, who has worked on shows like Britannia, Cuckoo, Black Ops, and Fatherhood, as well as Wonka and Paddington 2. The release date for this project is still under wraps, but I can’t wait to see what he brings to the table!
