The filmmaking duo, the Philippou brothers, behind the movie “Talk to Me,” are ready to step back into the horror genre in 2025 with their new project titled “Bring Her Back.” Details about this A24 production have been scarce, and the official synopsis merely hints at a chilling storyline: “A brother and sister stumble upon a dreadful ritual at the isolated home of their new foster mother.” At a recent preview event, Danny Philippou may have shed some light on the upcoming film, suggesting that a harrowing real-life incident served as inspiration for the script writing. With this revelation, “Bring Her Back” promises to be even more spine-tingling.
According to Bloody Disgusting’s report, the team behind the project titled “Bring Her Back” showcased their trailer at an event. During this gathering, some fortunate participants got a sneak peek. It was during this visit that Danny confided that a harrowing personal event in his family transpired while he was writing the script, which served as the basis for the film’s chilling narrative.
While we were in the process of composing ‘Bring Her Back,’ my cousin tragically lost her two-year-old child. We found ourselves at the hospital, where I witnessed my cousin cradling the young boy on a bed as the family gathered around him. They held his limbs – feet, hands, head, arms – for what seemed like an eternity. Over time, everyone gradually released their hold until, eventually, only my cousin remained. She was the last to let go.
Finding excitement in the exploration of unsettling topics is intriguing. The concept of her perpetual distress following the event served as a catalyst. I’m curious about how deeply she’d delve to recover from it. Moreover, the notion of an endless cycle of grief is petrifying, and witnessing such raw sorrow is equally chilling.
The movie “Bring Her Back,” directed by the duo Danny and Michael Philippou, will debut in cinemas on May 31 for most audiences, but Australian viewers can enjoy it a day early on the 30th. The film boasts an impressive cast led by Sally Hawkins, Sora Wong, Billy Barratt, Jonah Wren Phillips, and Sally-Anne Upton, among others.
A24 Continues Its Unique Horror Run
2025 continues to see A24, the independent film studio renowned for its unique take on genres, expanding its horror catalog. Just one example from this year’s lineup is the chilling Bring Her Back. Previous years have seen releases like I Saw the TV Glow, Love Lies Bleeding, Heretic, MaXXXine, and Y2K, all of which demonstrate A24’s knack for pushing genre boundaries with impressive results. The upcoming films suggest that 2025 will follow suit. Already released is the somewhat enigmatic Death of a Unicorn, which, while not universally lauded by critics, showcases that A24 continues to support innovative filmmaking.
In the year 2023, the movie “Talk to Me” successfully won over A24 executives and was a successful box office hit for the independent studio. This led directly to the greenlighting of a sequel. The filmmaking duo, previously YouTube sensations, have plans for “Talk 2 Me “, but before that, they must demonstrate their worth once more in the challenging landscape of original horror with the chilling and unsettling movie “Bring Her Back“.
