‘Call Her Daddy’ Host Alex Cooper Accuses College Soccer Coach of Sexual Harassment

As a gamer putting down my controller for a moment, I’d say: In a raw and revealing Hulu doc, Call Her Daddy’s host Alex Cooper openly shares her heart-wrenching story about being sexually harassed by my former soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, at Boston University.

The podcasting powerhouse, Alex, debuted at the Tribeca Festival yesterday, with the first part revealing her ordeal of harassment spanning three years at her school. She accuses Feldman of making inappropriate comments about her body and inquiring about private aspects of her life, among other allegations. As a top soccer player, Cooper secured a full scholarship to Boston University.

During my sophomore year, everything took an unexpected turn. That’s when I began to perceive her showing a remarkable interest in me, unlike any other teammate I had before. It was puzzling because the attention wasn’t centered around my performance on the field and my potential as a starter. Instead, it revolved around her curiosity about my love life, her inappropriate remarks about my appearance, and her persistent desire to spend time with me alone.

Coach Cooper mentioned that she intended to steer clear of Feldman, but this action might lead her coach to retaliate by keeping her out of matches. In the end, it resulted in Coach Cooper expelling her from the soccer team during her final year.

She remembered, “It was a bizarre game she proposed: ‘Want to play? Let’s discuss your intimate relationships.’ Since she was giving me a ride to my night class and we’d be alone in the car, I felt uneasy. To minimize my interaction with her, I started taking alternative routes to avoid her, even adjusting my schedule when necessary. During meetings, I made sure to keep a distance from her, often sitting as far away as possible. Basically, anything to prevent being alone with this woman.

In the novel “Call Her Alex“, Cooper asserted that university officials failed to take action on her accusations against Feldman and that there was no subsequent investigation into these claims. Cooper earned her degree from Boston University in 2017, while Feldman retired in 2022.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Boston University for comment.

Reflecting on a Q&A session after the documentary’s release, I shared my reasoning behind revealing the sexual harassment allegations. “This process made me ponder, if I have the means to afford legal assistance and resources, who feels empowered to speak up? I’m still apprehensive now, you understand. I was an unknown student when this happened in college. I did come forward, but was effectively silenced. The tale is disheartening because I want to encourage women to speak up… Yet, I did, and my voice wasn’t heard for a decade.

She added, “I truly believe this is just the start. It’s made me see how challenging the system can be, and it’s designed in a way that makes it tough for women to have our voices heard. We face denial, questioning, or feelings of shame, and this has been weighing heavily on my mind about whether I should include this in the documentary… But then I realized, oh my goodness, there’s so much more work for me to do. I plan to utilize my platform to encourage others to share their stories, as dialogue is the key to bringing about change.
