Call Me Bae: Ananya Panday feels ecstatic as fan calls her character Kareena Kapoor aka Poo’s daughter; ‘Could only ever dream of this’

As a devoted fan, I must say that Ananya Panday’s journey reminds me of watching Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham grow up and become Bae. It feels like a beautiful extension of her character, and it warms my heart to see this connection being made.

Right now, Ananya Panday is excited about the premiere of her series titled Call Me Bae. The show’s trailer provided a sneak peek at Ananya’s character, who is a wealthy fashion enthusiast named Bae. A fan has compared Bae to the characters Poo and Rohan from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, played by Kareena Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan respectively. This comparison left Ananya thrilled, as she admitted that she could only have dreamed of such a compliment.

Recently, Ananya Panday shared a fan-edited video on her Instagram Stories, featuring her character in Call Me Bae. The clip initially showcased Kareena Kapoor Khan and Hrithik Roshan as Pooja and Rohan from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, who were portrayed as ‘The Parents.’ Subsequently, Ananya’s character, Bella (also known as Bae), was introduced, who the fan labeled as ‘The Daughter.’

Instead of keeping her excitement contained, Ananya enthusiastically shared it. Her message read, “Wow! Only little Ananya could have imagined this!”

At the premiere event for the series, producer Karan Johar expressed that if Rohan and Pooja’s characters had a daughter today, she would be known as “Bae.” He explained, “In essence, ‘Bae’ is a marvelous evolution of the Gen Z version of ‘Poo.’ So, you could say that where ‘Poo’ concludes, ‘Bae’ begins anew.”

Karan clarified, “I’ll put it this way: This is the most accurate description I can provide, as when you observed Poo’s character in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, it initially appeared full of merriment and frolic, but eventually she added depth to the emotional weight of the story. Similarly, our upcoming series will appear light-hearted and stylish at first glance, but it carries a deeper message.”

In this 2-minute, 34-second preview, we’re introduced to Ananya’s character Bella (also known as Bae), who enjoys an opulent lifestyle. However, her wealth vanishes, forcing her to begin anew in Mumbai. The comedy-drama series will follow Bella’s story as she takes on a journalist role and encounters various individuals along the way.

Previously, Ananya posted a backstage video where she was rehearsing the ‘chick-flick scream.’ She thanked her followers for their affection towards the trailer. Her post said, “Working hard to nail the ‘chick-flick scream’ for #CallMeBae, but honestly I’m shouting with delight over all the appreciation we’ve received on our trailer – so grateful beyond words (check out the link in my bio for those who haven’t seen it yet!) #CallMeBaeOnPrime.”

Titled “Call Me Bae,” this web series makes its grand entrance featuring a star-studded cast, including Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskkkaan Jaferi, Niharika Lyra Dutt, Lisa Mishra, and Mini Mathur. The series was conceptualized by Ishita Moitra and helmed by Collin D’Cunha in the director’s chair.
