Candace Cameron Bure Reveals How Bob Saget Inspired Her Masked Singer Role

After Bob Saget’s unexpected passing in 2022, the Full House cast has honored his memory by sharing nostalgic party photos, heartwarming tales of him, and his affectionate habit of hugging. However, his influence on Cameron Candace Bure extends beyond these reminiscences. Recently, Bure was revealed as Cherry Blossom in The Masked Singer’s 13th season (scheduled to air in 2025 on television and streamable with a Hulu subscription). She shared how Saget influenced her decision to participate in the show.

As a devoted fan, I’d like to share that Candace Cameron Bure, in her own words, portrayed DJ, the eldest Tanner daughter on the iconic shows Full House and its spinoff, Fuller House. Though Bob Saget’s standup comedy had a different vibe compared to Bure’s more traditional values, their bond was unquestionable. In an episode of Whine Down with Jana Kramer, she expressed her desire to pay tribute to her cherished co-star, Saget. Bure conveyed this sentiment to host Jana Kramer during the podcast.

Each time they’ve asked me to sing in front of people, I’ve felt too terrified to agree. Now, for the fourth time, I declined. But then, I thought to myself, “Maybe it’s time to confront this fear.” And guess what? Bob is such a significant figure in the show, and he appeared in the very first episode I ever watched – without realizing it was him at the time.

It came to light that Bob Saget was the character known as the Squiggly Monster on the show The Masked Singer during Season 4. Interestingly, another cast member from Full House, John Stamos, had been privy to this information because, if Saget had advanced further in the competition, Stamos was set to appear as a clue.

In the meantime, Candace Cameron Bure hadn’t been told earlier about her previous TV father dressing up as a contestant, but she quickly recognized him. Later on, she added:

Initially, I found myself lounging on my sofa, thinking, “What on earth is this bizarre program?” as people strutted by in peculiar costumes. It left me quite bewildered. However, after saying to myself, “I’ll just watch one episode,” the moment the Squiggly Eyed Monster appeared and I heard that distinctive sound, I was immediately elated, shouting, “That’s Bob! That’s Bob!” My enthusiasm mirrored Tom Cruise with Katie Holmes. I was practically bouncing on my couch, exclaiming, “That’s Bob! This is fantastic!” From that moment, I became captivated by the show as it served as an introduction for me.

Reflecting on such an enjoyable recollection, it’s clear that drawing upon his enthusiasm might have been the encouragement needed to seize the opportunity presented by “The Masked Singer,” even though fear held him back initially.

Jana Kramer, similar to Candace Cameron Bure, has participated in both ‘The Masked Singer’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars’. Kramer mentioned that the mask offered her a barrier from the audience which made her feel more at ease while singing. This factor seemed to set Bure apart during ABC’s celebrity dance competition compared to her experience.

The actress from The Great American Family concurred, yet qualified her agreement, explaining that participating in DWTS provided a deeply satisfying experience for her. However, an early exit from the Fox show left her unable to completely conquer her apprehension about performing in front of audiences.

I can’t help but feel that, no matter which path she chose, Bob Saget would have been incredibly proud of her for overcoming that fear. If you fancy a trip down memory lane and want to revisit some of the best (or, as per Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, the worst) episodes of Full House, the entire series is up for streaming with a Max subscription. Tune in to Fox at 8 p.m. ET every Wednesday for Season 13 of The Masked Singer.
