2025’s lineup for the Directors‘ Fortnight, an independent segment of the Cannes Film Festival managed by the French Directors’ Guild, has expanded to include one more film: “Yes!” directed by Nadav Lapid from Israel.
The story unfolds post-October 7 attacks, focusing on Y., a musician battling to make it in the jazz world, who is assigned the challenging mission of composing the nation’s new anthem to music. Ariel Bronz, Efrat Dor, Naama Preis, and Alexey Serebryakov are among the stars featured in this production.
In 2021, Lapid attended the Cannes Film Festival and presented his daring auto-fiction drama “Ahed’s Knee” in the main competition. This film shared the Jury Prize with “Memoria” by Apichatpong Weerasethakul, receiving the award jointly. Earlier, in 2019, his third feature film, “Synonyms“, was honored with Berlin’s Golden Bear.
The company, Les Films du Losange, is responsible for worldwide distribution of this project and plans to present it to potential buyers during the Cannes film market.
The Directors’ Fortnight recently revealed its lineup for 2025, and some of the notable selections are as follows:
– “Miroirs No. 3” by the esteemed German director Christian Petzold (known for his works “Barbara” and “Afire”)
– The Iraq-based drama “The President’s Cake,” directed by Hasan Hadi
– Eva Victor’s acclaimed film “Sorry, Baby,” which will serve as the closing piece for the sidebar on May 24 (previously screened at Sundance)
