Capcom Considers Remaking Another Classic, But It’s Not The One Fans Want (Again)

Capcom Considers Remaking Another Classic, But It’s Not The One Fans Want (Again)

As a seasoned gamer who vividly remembers the thrill of hunting zombies and dinosaurs in the late 2000s, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions upon reading this news. On one hand, I’m elated that Capcom is revisiting Dead Rising with a fresh coat of paint, making it accessible to a new generation of gamers. On the other hand, my heart aches at the mere mention of a potential Dead Rising 2 remaster.

Story Highlights

  • Capcom has launched an overhauled version of the first Dead Rising for modern platforms in recent times.
  • The game’s producer has spoken up about other potential remasters or remakes in the same manner.
  • A name has popped up, but it’s not one that fans would love to hear, considering their expectations that lie elsewhere.

This month saw the release of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, which offers players an updated take on the original Frank West adventure. Using Capcom’s RE Engine, the game has been significantly enhanced to provide a revamped gaming experience. Although it isn’t a complete remake, the core gameplay and most other features have been kept largely the same, with the main difference being a significant graphical overhaul.

It’s a solid entry, for sure, that’s going to bring back a lot of memories, but here’s the kicker: Capcom is next considering remaking another classic entry belonging to the same franchise, but it’s hardly what fans want the most. In an interview with Inverse, the game’s producer Kei Morimoto told the publication that a Dead Rising 2 remake or remaster in the same vein as Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is “definitely possible.”

Refashioning or enhancing Dead Rising 2 is indeed feasible. At present, we’re keeping an eye on market trends and the success of Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster. If we find a suitable moment where we can effectively market a remake or remastered version of Dead Rising 2, the project might be brought up for discussion.

Two words, one franchise: Dino Crisis.

What about that one, Capcom?

It’s uncertain right now if we’ll ever see another installment of Dino Crisis, as Shinji Mikami, the original creator of the series, recently expressed surprise at the growing interest in a new game despite the popularity of Monster Hunter. Although it could be a tease, his statement doesn’t make the possibility any clearer.

At this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Mikami expressed that at the moment, it seems there isn’t much room for a game like that due to the immense popularity of Monster Hunter.

Among Capcom’s games, Dino Crisis stands alongside Resident Evil: Code Veronica and Onimusha as those that could greatly benefit from a remake. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that the company decides to work on these projects in the future.
